I all of the sudden feel like taking a vacation and am wondering where the safest place to be is. I am afraid that whatever bad things other terrorists have in store for us are imminent and would like to insulate myself and my family as much as I can from the spectre of chemical/biological/nuclear warfare.
I don't think anywhere on the eastern seaboard would be a good choice. I'm thinking about a place that has little to no value to terrorists. Any ideas?

Have you tried to get tickets for a ride on the space shuttle..

Honestly to stay where you are for anyone is wise and safest

Terrorist are after large target that set the most fear and cause the most destrustion and loss Large public gathering places.

This reminds me of some British people a few years ago that wanted to go off somewhere that they would be safe and not sitting on a target for military operations or terrorists so they carefully looked at all the world and decided to move to the Falkland islands - just before the war between Argentina and England. They were among the first evacuated back to England.
Even if you think you have picked the God forsaken middle of nowhere that nobody in their right mind would want you can never tell.
I can see where England wants to keep those islands if in a few years the resources in Antarctica become important.

I was thinking along the lines of the Fra Mauro highlands on the moon. But I wouldn't take the shuttle to orbit.

My backyard. The tom hasn't mowed lately and it's a jungle back there. I'm thinking of outfitting the dog with a machete so she can hack her way to a suitable spot to nap.

The USA is still the safest place. You can mouth off about the government and you don't get shot. Even Palstinians living here can rejoice openly when America is terrorized. Try dancing in the streets on the West Bank next time a soldier murders a kid.

Huumm, Pakistan and Afganistan are not good choices. Pray about it, then other than those two pick any spot that thrills you, somewhere that will really take you away from your every day life. Think it over real good, read about it on the net. Then pray some more. Then pack and go have a wonderful time!!

I have researched it very carefully. In the US it is Cascade, Idaho.
http://www.cascadeid.com/info/info.html You can go sking!

Good news. Though the Potassium Iodide sites are all out-of-stock, tincture of iodide will work if spread in a patch the size of your hand and not wash it off. Morton Salt will work only if you eat 5 cups a day..so that is out.

Under a desk w/your head between your legs kissing your butt good-bye? But it may not be an ideal vacation spot.

Ummmm, JT, there's no snow in Cascade right now--in fact it's about 80 degrees up there. I live about 120 miles southwest of that area.

Then last weekend there was the landslide south of Cascade. Folks had to spend the night in cars until crews cleared the roads for them.

Basically for anyone who lives in this area and has any sense, Cascade is the extreme place to avoid. Windy, twisty roads for about two hours out of the capital city; weekend traffic is oft bumper to bumper all the way with not one place beside the road a person can even get into and take a break. It used to be such a beautiful area to go to--unfortunately the mass of people getting 'out of town' for the weekends around here has ruined it.

Well, I've digressed enough.

Vacation? Hmmmm. I can't think of a place in this world I would head to right now. I'm sticking close to my family.

Well shucks, you have ruined my vision of America's last "frontier". I thought with only 1000 residents for miles, it couldn't be so bad.

Simco, I just happen to have tincture of idoine on hand already. It was nothing.

How about a backpacking trip to Tierra del Fuego? But give yourself and your family enough time to hike there.

Clifton Forge, VA is still pretty safe. Just stay away from Main St on the side where the police station is, that's the danger spot. Drug dealers like to hang out there.

Actually I think it WAS SOMETHING! I am starting to believe there are posters on here that want to only spread fear and terrorize those that believe other than themselves!

Iodine was kept in the 60's to keep the thyroid from be exposed to radiation from atomic fallout if I remember correctly.

I find some of the links give by some posters and some thoughts given meant to just spread complete panic. These posters ought to be ashamed.

Moderators, did I say that right? If not, delete it. Or since I haven't been admonished before you could just slap my hand (mouse).

tiggressoflove - do you feel Clifton Forge is safer than Low Moor, VA (note I spelled it with two words)

Are we neighbors?
