Well, I have been lounging in my comfy bed sipping fresh orange juice pondering the state of the universe. I have come to the conclusion that our American Military might is out of date. Sorry to say but the greatest fastest badest f16 is just useless. Going to Afgan. is pointless. Remember from our own Amerian history that we have our own version of OSAMA. He was the SwampFox - Francis Marion. Got his name from hiding out in the Swamps forever eluding the Brits. We were the evil terrorist once, they were called Militia. Don't get mad, learn from history. The Brits lost because they could not fight an enemy that would not fight war like a "gentleman". Americans won because they knew they lay of their land. They knew where to hide, how to ambush, how to attack without warning. We were poor and desperate and used all the cunning, sneakiness, and surprise we could muster against what was the greatest military on earth at that time. So people here just need to let go of the great military power on earth idea. History proves this over and over. David slew Goliath with a ROCK. If this is a new war then it must be fought with the new weapon, the computer. Bush would do better to order about 15oo comfy office chairs from office Depot and 1500 of the fastest pentium computers on the market. This war must be fought on the internet. The internet should be the focus of the war on terrorism, it is how it organizes itself. If they can't communicate online they are sunk. How else do they have cells all over the world? Its time to haul out the most evil hackers we have and get them hacking with a purpose. Hack em to Hell and back! Lets use milita style warfare on a keyboard. IT would be awesome. It is a new war its a new weapon. Wake up old military geezers! We will have to storm the ISP's and not the beaches. We will have to drop the VIRUS and not the bomb.

I don't really expect government to care. In my estimation a person is like a sack of potatoes to the government. They will have the president and other officials stand and mouth pious words of sympathy in a mic but they won't DO anything.
If my wife had been in that tower I would be thinking in terms of going to Pakistan under the cover of business and finding out who comes and goes for the Taliban to take care of their business. I know I could never penetrate into Afghanistan itself. I might even seek to trade with them. It might take some time and funds to discover who comes out and facilitates their existance with the outside world but then when I had a list they would quietly disappear one by one. By my own hand if I could arrange it. I can't believe there are no others like me. Some of the people in those buildings had survivors with substantial resources. I find it hard to believe that they will all just say - well get over it - nothing to be done but get on with life. A few hundred thousand dollars will buy a lot in that part of the world.
A nice string of ears for example to leave at your loved ones grave. Much nicer than flowers or a bowl of rice.

I understand your frustration, gravid. It's hard to sit back and wait. But I do believe our government is learning quite a bit about the 'workings' of this one terrorist group. New information is share each day, and I'm sure there's a lot we aren't hearing. I also believe it's important for our nation to find out who's going to support us, and it what ways, before taking action.

On another thread, I read where Microbes shared a thought or something he/she had read. Offering a large reward to anyone who makes the US aware of where these different terrorists are located. Like a bounty on their heads, like "Wanted....Dead or Alive". Might just work. Then again, if money has no influence on them and these terrorists only want our heads, that won't do much good.

People seem to forget that the CIA and other agencies are prevented by our law from being "nasty". Years ago someone would have come up behind bin Laden and put a bullet in his head. President Ford signed an executive order, under pressure from Congress, preventing this. Our agencies follow the money trail constantly. But guess what? They are only allowed to trace on foreign computers. If the trail leads to an American computer system they must, by law, break off. So guess where most of the activity is.

All of this is in the process of being changed.

DeSquirrel - How right you are. I'm one that's glad we're beginning to change the ground rules. We've had our hands tied for too long. Glad the rules are being changed.
