That's a bummer. My 1989 Camaro was the first new car I ever bought. I was 21, it was bright blue metallic, and a guy I worked with at the time nicknamed me "The Blue Streak".

Yep, we've been losing most of the affordable sports cars in the last few years. First, the RX-7 and the 300ZX. Then, the Toyota Supra Twin Turbo. Then, the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4. Finally, they redesigned the Mitsubishi Eclipse to get rid of the turbo charged, all-wheel drive options. And now, the Camaro and Firebird.

All that's left in the realm of affordability [i.e., under $30K] are gutless "sporty" cars like the newly redesigned Toyota Celica and ugly "performance" cars like the new Subaru Impreza WRX.

If you want a car that looks good AND goes fast, you need to spend insane amounts of money and get something like a Corvette or an Acura NSX. I'm convinced that this is a plot by those over 35 to keep sports cars out of the hands of the younger generation. Of course, I'll be over 35 next year, so hopefully somebody will give me a free 'vette or something.

In the mean time, I'm very glad I got my 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX when I did. I'm just sad that I'll never be able to "upgrade" to a 3000GT.

The Honda S2000 does 0-60 in 5.5 seconds and sells for about $32,000. The new Mazda RX and the new Nissan Z-car will be out within two years and both are expected to start at around $30,000!

Ah the memories....a '69 Firebird convertible at the drive-in movies...My '89 metalic blue IROC-Z....Nothin' sounds as fine as the big 8's purrin' under the hood, and the feel of the machine when it sucks the road on a sunlit day cruisin' a peak performance....VROOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

We are keepin' the memories alive with my husbands Trans Am Ram Air....He thinks it's a luxury to keep, "I" think it's a neccesity!!!

You can keep the imports, they just don't have the appeal of the American muscle cars....Farewell Camaro & Firebird, you will not be forgotten!

Well, at least they're still making the Mustang [the original "Pony" car], although I'm not all that thrilled with its current incarnation. What's with the fake hood and side air scoops?

Ah yes, brings back memories of my first car, a silver 79 Trans Am, T-tops, blue eagle on the hood and that mammoth V-8. I loved that car. When I was a little kid and saw "Smokey and the Bandit" I told my parents, "I want one of THOSE when I get older." I remember my mother telling me that by the time I was old enough to drive, they wouldn't be around. I reminded her of that the day I brought the "Silver Bullet" (as it became known in my family) home.

I have fond memories of a '69 "Rustang" Mach 1. 428 motor. Now there was a "Muscle Car".

Goodbye Camaro and Firebird'

Oh well, but if you like a real car its hard to beat a 69" olds 442 or a GTO.
