When I first heard of that, I sort of laughed it off. But it did get me thinking, and I doubt very seriously I will take my little boy trick-or-treating at the mall here.
We live in a relatively small town, and it seems like any given day of the week, you can expect a "good size" crowd at the mall. Especially with the holidays coming.
There is a significant number of Middle Eastern people here, and most are men. Our town is a resort town and there is practically a beachwear store on every corner. And there are only two or three "chains" of these stores - and they all are owned by the same people. About 10 years ago, I tutored a few guys in English when they arrived here. None of them spoke English, and all spoke Arabic.
I am not being paranoid by any means; however, I do believe in taking the President's advice about being cautious. When you think about it, isn't security in smaller towns a little less stringent than in larger cities? I mean, wouldn't you expect an attack in a large city with much more national visibility? Who would even consider small-town America. We haven't become hermits, but have altered our activities to some degree. These terrorists have already proved that they will stop at nothing to achieve their objective. We did have an AF base here, but it closed about 8 years ago - don't know if that was a good thing or a bad thing...
