I just got this email ... and thought I would post it here. The text follows ... better safe than sorry...

I received this from a friend of a friend, I don't know that it is true but worth the time it takes to read this!! Please be careful!!

> It's always better to be safe than sorry on these things.

Hi All -
I think you all know that I don't send out hoaxes and don't do the
reactionary thing and send out anything that crosses my path. This one, however, is a friend of a friend and I've given it enough
credibility in my mind that I'm writing it up and sending it out to all of you.

My friend's friend was dating a guy from Afghanistan up until a month ago. She had a date with him around 9/6 and was stood up. She was understandably upset and went to his home to find it completely emptied.

On 9/10, she received a letter from her boyfriend explaining that he wished he could tell her why he had left and that he was sorry it had to be like that. The part worth mentioning is that he BEGGED her not to get on any commercial airlines on 9/11 and to not to go any malls on Halloween.

As soon as everything happened on the 11th, she called the FBI and has since turned over the letter.

This is not an email that I've received and decided to pass on. This came from a phone conversation with a long-time friend of mine last night. I may be wrong, and I hope I am. However, with one of his warnings being correct and devastating, I'm not willing to take the chance on the second and wanted to make sure that people I cared about had the same information that I did.

The email was signed with a name, phone number, and email address. I did not post that here as per AW rules. If anyone wants it email me.

Becky:
I just got home from the bus stop.
My friend Irene told me that some story was told to her by one of our neighbors.
The only difference between the two stories is that your letter says "Halloween" and hers is "October 31".

That letter has been circulating since Oct. 5th. More misinformation via the internet.

Read up on it at the link if you wish.

Snopes.com (the Urban Legends site) has already got this up on their "Rumors of War" page-

Oops--looks like I got beat with the posting the snopes link---but it is good to see that so many people are willing to look into a rumour before accepting it's validity

I somehow missed the Mall-O-Ween Thread. Darn.

Still, I will not be in any mall on Halloween.

Me neither----I'll be out soaping windows, throwing eggs and setting off Fire-Works like the rest of the local hooligans

Just curious, does the letter have any influence on that decision?

I will definately be thinking about it. BUT it is also trick or treat night and I have a Halloween Party with my Daisy Girl Scout troop so I wouldn't have been anywhere near the mall anyway.

I live in a very strange place. Halloween is the time of the year here that Fireworks are sold. Some parts of Canada get them on Victoria Day (May 24th) and others get them for Canada Day (July 1st)...but the strange Powers that Be in British Columbia decided that the day that people wear disguises and masks should also be the day that they can set off small explosive devices. !!!!!

AHA!!!!

Proof that very few people open my topics.

I'll be in California trick or treating at KRS' house and then at Shosh's.

They better darn well have some good treats (Godiva, Absolut, Grand Marnier) or suffer my tricks.

From the local FBI office:

From: [email protected] (NDPO)
To: [email protected]

We have every reason to believe that this is a hoax. Federal law enforcement has not received, to this date, any credible threats to malls on 10/31.
