This may have been part of the terrorist's plans, I don't know, but there have been a few cases of police response to possible contaminated mail in the Kansas City area. A local KC news station said tonight that a bedroom community outside KC had a suspect letter brought in by a concerned citizen. Police and the citizen then underwent decontamination and the FBI was called. They (FBI) declined to become involved in the situation, and advised the local police to contact the Health Department. When called, the Health Dept. also declined involvement. Now there is a small-town Police Department building that has been closed down pending testing, but no one to do the tests!

All the news sites say to call 911 if you are suspicious of a package, but our smaller local systems will no doubt be quickly overwhelmed by these reported anthrax scares. Probably overlooked by the big guys in the city. I guess we can do nothing other than wait for someone to show active symptoms before calling in the Feds.

If it's possible, advise people to contact the USPS Postal Inspector's Office locally about mailed materials. There should be a toll free line listed in your phone book.
