jt or anyone else who homeschools, are there any online resources with actual lessons or worksheets?
While I am not planning on homeschooling, kidlet's education, I feel, is seriously lacking and I would like to supplement it at home. I have spoken to the teacher, but to no avail.
He is in first grade, but reads at a fourth grade level. He is also very interested in all things science and math related.

Instead of going to a 'formal' educational suppliment for him, why not just turn him lose in the local library and let him self teach. When he hits something that really strikes his fancy then go a bit further with it.
Making it just like school work can sometimes turn even the most gifted child off

Zazzie,
We already do that!
Glad I am on the right track. I just wanted to get an idea of what is out there to expand further more formally.
Like I said, he loves all things science. I would really like to go in that direction.
The school has what they call Life Labs, but that is a once every ten day thing for each class and consists of mostly farm life learning.
The school actually has a mini animal farm with goats, chickens and ducks that are cared for by all the students.

Stress to the kid the importance of washing hands after dealing with the animals. I will bet anything the "animals are your friends" mentality does not like to point out they are swarming with E.Coli. Petting the goat and handling a sandwitch can be lethal.
