I read in my local paper last week that 2 nursing tanks of anhydrous ammonia had been stolen from a farm services storage facility about 3 miles from my home. This past Sunday, I read that an unknown quantity of anhydrous ammonia had been stolen from another storage facility about a mile away from the first one.
Didn't the Oklahoma City bombers use anhydrous ammonia? I'm not sure how big a nursing tank is, but if they're the size of the ones I see spraying the fields around my house, that's a heck of a lot of ammonia unaccounted for.
Why would anyone steal this much unless they were making a bomb? Can it be used for anything else?
I was a little nervous when I read about the first incident. I'm pretty sure it happened on Oct 30. The second happened on November 3 and I'm getting a bit more worried.

A new type of methamphetamine production that uses anhydrous ammonia as one of its main ingredients. Methamphetamine producers are taking containers to CO-OPs to have them filled or they steal it from tanks on privately-owned fields. It's more valuable used for drugs than for bombs.

Not as explosive maybe, but more tweak for the masses isn't exactly good news either. Methamphetamine is an incredibly destructive drug.

Talk about the lesser of two evils! I can't believe I'm actually hoping the thieves are using it to make drugs.
I'm not the type of person who flies into a panic at every newscast or every 'warning' spit out by our government, but this did have me worried.
So, I suppose the terrorists have already won.

Haven't there been numerous reports of drug makers blowing themselves up? If they live next door it could be like a bomb!
