Bush proposes more cash for homeland security

"President Bush told U.S. mayors Thursday of his plan to nearly double spending on homeland security to $37.7 billion. The request, which Congress must approve, seeks an additional $18.2 billion, representing almost a doubling of the $19.5 billion the federal government spent this year to make states and cities safer."

No details on how it's ALL goning to be spent - just small parts of it. I wonder where the rest of it is going? Police Commisioner's salaries? Payoffs for creating a new Police Force to "root out terrorists", including those who lawfully march and protest, I imagine. Where was all of this hurry to get billions of dollars when it came to Education? Typical Republican nastiness!

We've got to do something with all that surplus money lying around; otherwise, it will just be frittered away on incidentals like Social Security.

For me, it is the lack of accountability for these new funds - a doubling of the original funds. That with broad, sweeping new powers that easily trample upon everyone's civil rights, who knows what nastiness the OHS has in store for us?

Does anyone else have a problem with the OHS -- or is it only me?

No, you're not the only one concerned. Another movement toward a totalitarian police state.
