I am so very proud today to be a woman. Sherron Watkins has shown more courage than all those Enruined guys combined. Wasn't she just terrific today, smart, forceful, honest, forthright, etc. etc.

We need lots more people like her in the business world.

I don't believe her. She's been sent in to steer attention away from Lay which also would protect bush.

She's a shill.

I'm afraid that it would be inappropriate for me to characterize what I think she is.

Wow! I confess I haven't thought of Ms. Watkins as a shill, as someone protecting Ken Lay! I just felt that she showed a lot of courage in facing that committee yesterday. Wasn't she a whistleblower in a way?

Both of you, please tell me more. You don't have to call her any names, of course, just tell me more about the basis of your feelings about her. Thanks.

The fact that she kept this job, knowing what she knew, doesn't say much about her integrity.

She said that she couldn't complain before August about the "alarming" accounting irregularities to Skilling or Fastow because she would have lost her job.

She advised Lay to blame others...

Doesn't sound like a goddess to me.

"Wasn't she a whistleblower in a way?"

I saw her in the same light that was displayed by Oliver North's testimony in the Iran-Contra Affair. That she is a nice person, I'll bet that she genuinely is and for that reason, she was choosen to toss the committee it's political bone. Enron has enriched everyone on the committe so ddeply that who can believe that they are acting in our best intersts? Talk is cheap and politicans never have enough of it! Its OK to say that they are investigating for the sake of all of those investors and the employees, but we already know what the coutcome will be. As per the usual payoffs, middlemen get convicted, sent to country-club prisions, then pardoned after a short while; or prematurely released by a sympathetic judge (whose own campaign needs contribtuions to, no doubt). The stolen millions upon millions of dollars will never be recovered - the U.S. government won't even try. That this has become an opportuinty for Bush to propose that the U.S. government bankroll Wall Street investors against losses with our tax money is something that no one is even complaining about yet.

"But Ms. Watkins, a vice president for corporate development, said she believed Mr. Lay "did not understand the gravity of the situation the company was in." Even after she explained to him in detail the company's questionable accounting practices and huge hidden losses, she said, Mr. Lay still "didn't get it."

Does it make any sense to believe that someone with the credentials of Watkins... auditor and a vice president for corporate development, could really believe that Ken Lay "didn't get it?"

Oh, absolutely! That's why they choose Kenneth Lay to run Enron -- another puppet, just like Puppet Bush is!

Okay, I give! You people have convinced me that S. Watkins isn't a true goddess, but I still give her credit for courage to face that committee, even if she didn't have the guts to quit her job last summer.

roadsmith, no where did I say that it didn't take courage on her part to be there. As per usual, someone is going to be looked at for a scapegoat to pin all of the blame upon to cover up for the rest of the wrongdoers, and she taking biug chances doing what she's done. After all, she never knows if some of the committee members have been bribed to charge her as the scapegoat in all of this. Back-stabbing is the norm there.
