My monitor is getting darker and darker. Do I need a new monitor or is it something else? Brightness and contrast adjustments are at the max

Darn it Choco! Now my monitor is doing the same thing! I should never have read this thread...I think my monitor got ideas.

Did you buy a new one? What kind did you get? Now I need to decide what to buy...any suggestions? Not much room for it so it can't be any bigger than 17". What are good brands now and how many .26 or whatever should I be looking for? It's been three years since I had to monitor shop. PS. It has to be inexpensive too!

I do have another suggestion for you.

Sometimes, the connection between the monitor and the video card in your computer goes south. Several reasons are:

1) The plug connecting into the back of your computer (to the video card) may be coming loose. Try unplugging the cable and then re-inserting the cable back onto the connector. Do not over-tighten the connector! Just lightly finger-tight is all it needs (some folks like to use vice-grips to tighten it with. Sheese!) Then, on some monitors, the cable comes off the monitor end itself. Do the same thing as you did with the other end.

2) Sometimes, the shielding just under the outside insulation begins to break apart, due to excess movement or stress. Try moving your computer a few inches away from the wall or back of the desktop and slowly move the cable in every direction while watching the picture on your monitor. Did it make a difference? If it did, you need a new cable.

Hope that helps ya!

LOL Bunz, sorry your monitor caught my darkness. Nope, I didn't get a new one. I played around with background colors, and found one that is light enough to make a difference. But, if a page or picture is in a dark color I can't see anything.

Well, Borillar you must like Rawbunzel best! You gave her a better answer than you gave me. I'll give those suggestions a try though

Thanks Borillar! I'll try that! I hope that's all it is but my luck it will be the monitor. I did just get a new PC last month and it has gotten steadily worse since then. Also have a black border around the screen that wasn't there before. Could it have something to do with the new PC? I did install the driver.

Choco , you know that isn't true. Borillar likes us just the same.

Bunz, have you adjusted the vertical and horizontal? Sometimes mine does that and it also causes an echo on the sound.

There is a vertical and horizontal adjustment somewhere? Hmmm... I did not know that.
This happened to mewhen I first got my other computer because the monitor was not compatilbe with the new PC. That isn't the problem this time. It shows up in there. Computers are a pain.
