Interesting indeed. What do you think it represents?

I hope they have better vote-count apparatus than we do.

I think that it is several things. A complacent incumbent party and leader who hasn't had to go "work the Vote" for decades. A beaucratic system so entrenched that it has alienated most of its citizens. A loss of national identity in accepting the Euro. An opportunity for clever Nationalist politicos. A backlash by French businesses who are tired of being "tolerated" by a pro-communist regeime. It is also the natural order of things to go from the Left to the Right and then back again to the Left in a never-ending cycle.

The right wing in France ran on crime and immigration issues.

Many speculate that the soft responce on terrorism incontinental Europe was due to these large immigrant populations.

I think the fact that many of the terrorists were at one time based and operated in Europe, the electorate is responding.

But, the turn out for the French election was an historic low.

As Borillar pointed out the political atmosphere cycles through right and left but I would add - as new voters come of age and are suckers for all the stale old fixes that their grandfathers fell for.

If France votes "Right" I'll be surprised if not shocked. 100 franc it ain't going to happen.

This is a nuclear power also.

They could even cut off wine and perfume and bring civilization as we know it to it's knees.

Why is it though that the French have never been able to build a car I would even take for free?
