Helminths(parasites) such as roundworms, flatworms and pinworms are apparently good for you. It seems that they build a resistance to allergies and carry antigens(disease-fighting agents). Allergies seem to be much more prevalent in affluent nations replete with air conditioners, air filters and all types of disenfectants. Third world nations, where people live in dirty conditions, have less allergy problems despite having higher incidences of more serious diseases.

Very interesting article Helenjw--Thanks.
I used to take my son to a wonderful very there for me allergist for his asthma. I'd have her treat me too. Two for one kind of deal; oh, my throat's a little sore. She probably got $13.00 a visit.
Anyway, I did the allergy 40-shot test thing. There were three red spots I'll never forget: American Cockroach; German Cockroach; Mixed Cockroach. I had never thought of such a thing! And I would kid, what now, cockroach shots?
I understand they are a big trigger for kids with asthma.
I'm in an unusual apartment now. A roach sighting is a rarity. I lived in one once that I swear had one per square foot at any given time. I finally had them bomb the place and when I came home and opened the door it was like the place had been painted while I was out.
Ah, life in NYC...
Stusi: Very cute. I could barely sit through that movie. (I'm very sensitive you know. I once watched "Dressed to Kill" standing in the kitchen, like this would help somehow.)
However, when it came out a friend likened me to the Spanish chick who was on the team trying to blow the things away. Nobody would say that now tho', old fart that I am.
