Senate approves 'fast-track' trade bill

WASHINGTON -- The Senate voted overwhelmingly Thursday night to give President Bush broader authority to negotiate trade agreements, coupling it with a multibillion-dollar expansion of aid to workers who lose jobs because of foreign competition.

Oh, SWELL!

First, Bush gets to make **ANY** damned trade deal with foreign countries that he pleases and Congress has promised to EXCLUDE ITSELF from oversight! Everyone KNOWS that Bush always lavishes $$MONEY$$ on his corporate cronies first and America/Americans NEVER!! And Congress says: GO FOR IT!!

Then, Democrats CAVED-IN (swooned?) to Bush & Co. by getting approval for TAXPAYER MONEY (Meaning YOURS and MINE) to pay for workers displaced by Bush's Deals that they PROMISED to not interfere with! With WHAT $$MONEY$$??!! We're already IN DEBT and GOING DEEPER BY THE DAY!! WHO IS GOING TO PAY FOR THIS?

!$#@$^!@!%!! Words can't describe how I feel about this deal!

nycy, I thought of a Tax Revolt. But Congress still has the authority to BORROW the moeny and put us even deeper in debt. We're damned if we pay them taxes and we're even damned more if we don't pay them! The answer lies elsewhere, in perhaps the only way they have left open to us.

I mean, what really pisses me off about this whole deal is the Democratic Party. Giving Bush the authority to go destroy American jobs to enrich his buddies doesn't seem like "The Party of the People." It seems more like the "Screw the People - we're RICH!" political party! Does the pittance in unemployment checks really make up for lost jobs? What about the gal or guy who has to support the family and suddenly looses their job? That unemployed worker MUST PROVE that the job was lost to foreign competition! I'll bet THAT's loads of fun to prove - especially if the company refuses to admit it. The lost wages, time, stress, headaches, heartbreak, retraining (if you can prove your case), etc. Is that worth letting MORE well-paid American jobs slip past the boarders? There WAS a time when you needed a job, you looked to the Democratic Party for help. Now you get traded.

It pisses me off that ANY President has that much authority to make trade deals! If deals are so shady that putting the deal under the scrutitny of the American People via our elected oficials means that those foreigners will turn tail on the deal and run -GREAT!! No President should have that much power.
