I don't know if any of you remember that about this time last year I had a cat that almost had its tongue cut off. Thank goodness that healed up after surgery but now this same cat has another problem. She was lethargic and not eating Saturday so yesterday so we took her to the vet. She had a fever and a mass in her abdomen so we did the x-ray thing. Seems she has a kidney that is about four or five times it's usual size and they have no idea why.Its pushing on her stomach and that's why she won't eat. All her blood tests came back fine.no funny kidney stuff at all.

Anyway, tomorrow we go to my regular vet to see if there is anything to be done for her. She is only 5 years old and she is a really special cat. She had a hard time of it and she really could use some positive energy or prayers sent her way. Tomorrow is going to be hard for me and her.

Her name is Babs.

We appreciate it.

Ah geez rawbunzel...you mentioned that the other day and I meant to say something. I just went through an ordeal last week with mine (seizures) so I'm close to how you're feeling.

St. Francis is the patron saint of animals, so I will pray to him for Babs.

Thank you. She needs all the help she can get once again.

Krafty seizures are awful! I have three chiuahuas that get them. Only one has them bad enough to take meds for them but another is well on the way to that. They are so scary. I'm sorry you have to deal with that too. Do you know the cause?

rawbunzel- check out www.felinecrf.com Kidney transplants in cats are available but are expensive. Did you ask the vet if cats can survive with one kidney like people can?

Hi Stusi, yes they can survive with one kidney. I asked that along with my usual ten million other questions. We just have to find out if this will be a case where removing the kidney is worthwhile. I will not have her suffering. So we are hoping for some better news tomorrow.

I will check out the link you have provided. Thank you.

Rawbunzel,

I'll be thinking about your cat tomorrow. I hope all goes well and there is an easy fix. Poor cat deserves it. Remember, they have 9 lives.

Take care and my blessings.

Any word yet rawbunzel? Yes, seizures are very difficult to watch in pets. I guess that's why I can relate to that helpless feeling you have when your pet gets sick. I'm really praying that Babs gets well...I tend to love animals more than people. (Well, some people. )

I hope that Babs will be ok. Sometimes, as with people, the treatment is worse than the cure so I understand your concern with that problem, Rawbunzil.

My husbands 17 year old cat died recently while taking antibiotics that were doing nothing but bothering her twice a day and
probably making her sicker that usual also. The vet even prescribed some bad tasting vitamins.

I'm sure that you will make the right decision. You are right! It usually takes 10 million questions and the right philosophy to make it through a crisis like this.

My very best wishes for your cat and you take care also.

Helen

Cat update.

We went to see the vet and tomorrow she has surgery to remove the gargantuan kidney. I took her home today instead of leaving her overnight but will bring her back in in the early morning andshe will have to stay the next night there. They said they would do her first thing. There is a danger it will rupture so she has to take it very easy between now and then.

I really liked this vet. She is new to the clinic I have been going to for twenty years so I am always skeptical at first ....but I liked her!I think Babs thought she was ok too.

Surgery is going to be expensive but still about half what the other place quoted on Sunday. So that's a good thing.

Hopelfully tomorrow will go well and she will recover without too much trauma.

Stusi, they have no idea why it is so large. It looks like it is fluid filled rather than a tumor. We will know more once it is out. Lucky for her the other kidney has been doing its job.

I just hope it's not an alien..I have visions of the alien emerging out of the chest of the guy in "Aliens".

Fluid is good. When I had my thyroid mass, the doctor told me fluid is good, solid is not good. Mine was half/half. The doctor told my mother just prior to my surgery that it was probably cancer. After the surgery, he said there was no sign of cancer. To this day, my mother will tell everyone that I didn't have cancer because she prayed.

Not my name on ebay.

Well, that certainly sounds hopefull rawbunzel. I'm glad to hear you opted for surgery. A lot of people wouldn't bother, so I think that makes you pretty special. I bet your cat thinks so too!

Poor little Babs. Hope they whip that nasty thing out of there quick and easy. Yes, fluid is good, but wonder why it happened, strange.

I like to have my pets home with me the night before too. One thing so I can give them extra attention and keep their stress level down. I know if I wasn't feeling well (and I were a pet) I sure wouldn't want to go to a strange place, put in a cold steel cage with all the lights out.

Hi Krafty how ya doing?

Tomorrow is going to be a long day for me but longer for the cat I think. I am crossing fingers and hoping all goes well.Any surgery is so dangerous.

Keeping them home the night before does seem to help keep them calm, Choco. Keeps me calmer too! I'd like to have her home right after as well but I guess they expect to keep her at least one night.

Thanks to all for the good thoughts and positive energy! We need it tomorrow!

Sounds like everything is going to be okay, Rawbunzel.

Just remember, it will be much worse on you than the cat. She'll sleep the whole time she is there.

I'll be interested to read what the Vet. has to say about the kidney.
