well, this might be something. what i thought was 30 day rent chicken may actually be 60 day rent chicken (with a turnover to 90 day tomorrow)because either i'e been THAT out of it--unusual but conceivable since The Day the Earth STood Still unless the landlord, who has incentive aplenty, chose not to cash one. so i've been served, and the FEMA paperwork is designed for people who are compleetely on their toes.

I dont know NY law, otherwise I would try to help you.
Can you pay partial? If they accept it, normally that means they will go along with working out a payment plan. In calif, if I accepted partial payment, I would have to do the eviction papers all over again with the new amount (which gives more time to dig it up). Or, can you plead "unforseen" difficulties, due to what you have gone thru since 9/11? Most courts dont care what the reason is...pay up or get out. But in this case, you might have some leeway? I dont know..just tossing out ideas.

NYCYN, Maybe this is the universes way of telling you to get the heck out of there. You really never know what is good luck and what is bad.

I can pay my rent. I just can't always pay it on time. But to go over 2 months without paying? I must've been really out of it. The mgt. here, recently changed, the other had an "all or nothing" policy, which I doubt would hold water in front of a NYC judge; I mean landlords KILL tenants in lower rent apartments in NYC.

Anyway, I think I'm awake now. Let's see if I recall any of this in 3 months.

If you are so stressed that you can't deal with the complexities of running a home and raising a kid and dealing with the nightmare of a job you need to go to several someones and say HELP! The longer you wait the bigger the mess. I don't look down on you at all if you are overwhelmed. It is a crazy world and you are in the crazyness capital. The wierdness vortex. Just don't deny it and miss the chance to fix it before you are on the street in a cardboard box. It is really a long way back from that. And not much better in the smal;l towns either.

Who do you have in mind? There is no help, Gravid, for the Middle Class. In fact, I train these people. (I have a helper, not to worry.)

I've applied to FEMA. I need a sorter-outer more than I need money. If I lived in a normal community I don't think I'd be going alone. That's what is strange about this place.

I've lived in this building 5 years. In this "family-friendly" community. A couple of years ago my son started puking in both of our beds Thanksgiving eve. On Thanksgiving/Laundry Day I looked out my window at hundreds of apartments and thought, "My God, I've lived in this 'Community' for 6-7 years and there isn't a person I can call to have a cup of coffee with."

Gravid, if you knew my life story you'd know you are talking to one of the toughest MF's you'd ever meet. Yeah, this WTC threw a wrinkle but we'll be okay.

My son? He is doing splendidly; I see to it.

x
