I haven't been inside much, so I've missed a lot of news. Does anyone know when the trials start with the child-molesting priests? Also, how many have been charged so far? Thanks.

Believe it or not, my questions weren't sarcastic. When nobody responded, I looked it up and realized none of them have been charged yet, but one is close to being charged...maybe, and one was recently murdered.
Another couple of questions....is the church above the law in the sense that they don't have to report criminal activity? Do they have their own church laws?

kraftdinner the trials will probably stagger on the dates due to the local governments agenda.
I heard a few weeks ago and haven't heard anything more about it, that if the church used taxpayer's money to pay off the victims (hush money) and other ways towards the sex crimes incidents i.e. lawyer fees and court fees, they are in BIG trouble.

To answer your question kraftdinner, I think the local prosecutors will find a way to hold the churches accountable. People and churches can hide behind the freedom of religion on somethings but not all. Also if the government allows the church to get away with it, there would be a precedent for other churches to do whatever they want.
If not the above than IMO there will be a mass boycott of the church (hitting it in the wallet) that it will force it to cooperate with the authorities.

I certainly agree clarksville. Moral fibre is always the first thing to go with big corporations. With what Americans have been dealt the past couple of years, I'm surprised there's any sane people left.
