Title of thread should be Turner accuses Israel of terror

Ted Turner tells the Truth

Excerpt.....

CNN chief accuses Israel of terror

Ted Turner, the billionaire founder of CNN, accuses Israel today of engaging in "terrorism" against the Palestinians, in comments that threaten to lead to a further decline in the news network's already poor relations with the Jewish state.

"Aren't the Israelis and the Palestinians both terrorising each other?" says Turner, who is vice-chairman of AOL Time Warner, which owns CNN, in an exclusive interview with the Guardian.

"The Palestinians are fighting with human suicide bombers, that's all they have. The Israelis ... they've got one of the most powerful military machines in the world. The Palestinians have nothing. So who are the terrorists? I would make a case that both sides are involved in terrorism."

His remarks were last night condemned by Ariel Sharon's government, which called them "stupid". Andrea Levin, director of the American pro-Israeli media watchdog Camera, said the comments were a "reprehensible" attempt to "blur the line between perpetrator and victim".

In his first British interview since the September 11 attacks, Mr Turner - who broke philanthropic records in 1997 when he donated $1bn to the UN - argues that poverty and desperation are the root cause of Palestinian suicide bombings.

"...too!" ???? So Mr. Jane Fonda subscribes to the theory that whoever has the BIGGER army is automatically a terrorist. Since if you are against our allies you are against us,I guess he would also conclude that the U.S. is a terrorist nation because we have the BIGGEST army. That is un-American! Helen, please show him to the "terrorists sign in here" thread as you "too" know the way.

Jane Fonda? Jane Fonda is not involved in this article. As a matter of fact, she is no longer associated with Ted Turner.

Ted Turner said,
"So who are the terrorists? I would make a case that both sides are involved in terrorism."

That's what I believe also.

helenjw-Since you are being so civil, I will respond in kind. Do you not see ANY difference between outright INTENTIONAL murder of innocents and INCIDENTAL "collateral damage"? Although the expression is perhaps cold and insensitive it IS a fact of war, declared or otherwise! BTW- I do know that Jane is out of the picture. However there are some similarities here between her and you. Compassion for a poor, primitive(relatively speaking) nation is understandable. If those same people choose to kill innocents as their form of protest of their plight they are now murderers. As such they must be dealt with in kind, lest they get delusions of grandeur from some minor "victories" and assume they can and should take on more and larger perceived enemies. Throw in the conviction of religious fervor and they will not be denied their mission of ridding the world of "infidels" who threaten their existence(WTC). Innocents will unfortunately be killed as we(U.S.,Israel and others) defend ourselves, sometimes preemptively. If they were to attack your community would you show them compassion as they killed your loved ones? It could happen! Give up the emotional ideals and SEE this for what it is- a fight for survival-ours!

Now I know what is wrong stusi is lost in the 60's,

all the Vietnam vets still think about her,
I remember lacrosse where teddy showed up with her to push buffalo meat. Hey ted dump the red! maybe he took the hint.

Incidental collateral damage is not what we have in Israel. The Israelis have bulldozed villages of civilians. That's intentional murder.

All I know is I don't see Israeli's blowing up Palestinian pizza parlors and buses full of school children. Not even in reprisal. They are stuck in a cyycle of revenge but their response is always more measured. Seems to be a basic difference. They are a lot nicer than me. A few buses of kids blown up and I would want to sweep through the Palestinian area and exterminate them so there was no chance of it happening again.
I do believe they have the ability to do that if they had the will.

We could join the stusi fan club and get smile buttons that say act like an Israeli.

Kind of like Steve Martin and his egyptian thing.

Then when the crips or bloods or homicidal ghetto scumbags or whateer they call them selves kill a suburban dweller we could call out Sharon Man !!!

where this mild mannered reproter strips down in a telephone booth to become the m,asked avenger and he uses the phone to call out air strikes on the ghetto for 3 days in reprisal. also cuts off their access to malls and water for 2 weeks.

Sorry forget it this wont work here. we dont have phone booths anymore just egg shapoed freeze your butt off things poking out of the road in a few (very few) places. No palce for StusiMan to get dressed.

Janejw- Giving comfort to the enemy is what she did and you are doing. Are the Palestinians really different from the AlQaeda? If you think the Palestinians are not OUR enemy as well you are really in denial. They are murderous animals excepting few. I made a mistake taking you off "ignore" as your naive, baseless positions are really unnerving to so many.
aurora- if the Palestinians were to attack U.S. citizens would you also think it understandable? How about a big "A" on YOUR leotard? Could stand for a lot of things......
What gravid said!!!!

IMO, the reason that the government appears to have no Middle Eastern policy is because they believe the current hostilities will help build greater anti-Muslim/Arab fear and antipathy here, resulting in stronger support for the Homeland Defense policies and also the plans to attack Iraq. That explains the constant waffling and lack of any concerted effort to end the hostilities. They assume that they can keep a lid on it.

BTW, speaking of Ted Turner and buffalo, he's our newest neighbor. He recently bought over 30,000 acres of prime tallgrass, to raise buffalo, from some friends, who actually never met him. We've been planning on taking a cake or something out and inviting him over for coffee but no luck yet in catching him at home. I'm thinking that maybe I'll run into him at the barber's.

I'd have to agree with Mr. Turner. Both sides are to blame. If Israel would agree to a separate Palestinian state instead of waiting for peace first, that would be a great step forward imo.

Wow antiquary! What I wouldn't give to have a conversation with Ted Turner! I bet you can't wait to run into him.

kraft- but hasn't Israel "agreed to a separate Palestinian state" before? Look what that got them! More murders!

That was a big blunder by Arafat imo. He was backed by Iraq into holding out for more under Clinton's proposal. Arafat's losing his grasp and I think his people are losing their patience, so this will only get worse until Israel (being the stronger power) makes a move.

Why should Israel agree to a Palestinian state? Name one agreement that the Palestinians (Arafat) made that they (he)have kept. Just what we need in the middle east...another despotic Islamic country. And of course it would have to subsist on welfare handouts for its "infrastructure" since it has no industry, resources or talents to support itself. Guess where it's "welfare" funds will come from?

No Palestinian state.

I do, 100%, agree with gravid's post.

One only needs to put themself in that position to understand it wouldn't be taken lightly. I think they're showing great restraint in not using total military force to deal with what is happening to their citizens.

And I agree with KatyD too. No Palestinian state. Just what we need is to pay to establish/support another 'state' that wants us dead. I don't believe the fighting would stop even if the Palestines were given land. They want all jews and infidels dead.
