In the news, they're using the term 'serious threat' quite a bit. The bridges, the water, nuclear plants, ships, etc.

It seems like a game of Wolf to me. Maybe because of the undisclosed pre-9/11 warnings, they (the government) feel they have to go overboard. They've already told us that the al qaeda works by hitting unexpectedly, so where are all these top secret, reliable source leads coming from?

Unless they come up with a more serious term than serious threat, nobody's going to feel threatened.

It's just attempted terror from the White House used to justify keeping the war machine rolling.

By writing that there may be serious threats, and by designating a lesser state of alertness on the "color scale", they can say that they told us so no matter what happens. The Bush administration doesn't seem to need any justification to "keep the war machine rolling", but in this case they have my support.

I think Stushi has the psychology of it. We are going to get hit with SOMETHING so if they keep warning us they won't be at fault for not warning us even if the warnings are basically useless because of being so non-specific. They think it looks better than looking like they got hit out of the blue even though that is basically what can happen at any time.

I mean nobody gets upset with Sharon because he can't predict what street corner or bus a suicide bomber is going to hit - but they don't keep saying Hamas is targeting them and they are in any state of alert of any hue. Everybody over about three years old already knows that they are.

Yes, I understand that concept.

As they state the possibility of terror while pointing out that nothing concerning this possible terror is corroborated, they cover their ass.

Yeah even if it is a sad faded pair of threadbare shorts with shot elastic.

By using this technique, they can continue to issue terror alerts every day, causing most people to believe that we have a cause to go to war.

In fact, the probability that we will experience terrorism is being exaggerated in order to keep the war machine rolling.

Oh, sure it's good for the Administration to keep terrorizing us every chance that they get:

+ Keeps Deniability in place.

+ Keeps the "War" rolling on.

+ Keeps Bush's poll ratings up high.

+ Keeps Democratic in Washington look like Traitors for asking questions or for doing their job.

Lots of good stuff for Bush & Co.

Maybe we could get a shot on the news with the terror report this would be read by ex weathermen the kind that predict rain the other ones are all working at democratic party headquarters.

Then each night these guys could read the latest news (propaganda).

We could get Republicans there too because they have much more experience with crayons than democrats do.

Democrats did not have the money for crayons when they were little they had to cut a hole in their pocket just to have something to do.

This si why Clinton is the way he is.

I think the serious threat warnings are to keep people watching for anything mysterious. Law inforcement and Goverment agencies can not see everything and they need citizens to help watch. I have not heard of a better idea than keeping "the war machine rolling". Should we just stop and see if they continue to kill us and bomb our buildings? I don't think so!!!

toolhound, try to define "anything mysterious" and you'll begin to see where the problem lies in that line of thought.

This is just my opinion, but I think when you're told to look for anything mysterious, unusual, etc., then anything can seem that way, especially for the imaginative. There are people being held in jails for looking mysterious. I usually don't wear sunglasses, so I end up squinting a lot. Maybe my neighbour thinks I look shifty.....and so on, and so on.....

In England recently the police got a call that a fellow was walking down the street with a shotgun rolled up in a plastic bag.

They sent two armed police - now that England has caught up with the US that way - and they demanded the fellow freeze. He was trying to raise his hands over his head but his wife who was walking with him said he just had colon surgery and it was hard for him to do that. Apparently he was a little slow cause they shot him through the head. Turned out it was a table leg in the bag.

They later found the caller who "saw" a shotgun shape there had just come out of a pub and was snockered.

That's what happens from the public watching for anything suspicious. Of course the police were found innocent of any misdeed. The English you see have caught up to us completely in police matters you see.

With the use of a little common sense I think Mysterious will not include reporting someone for squinting or wearing sun glasses. I know my neighborhood and most of the people in it and the businesses around it. I live close to a county well that supplies water to to a large area. Everyone around that I know keeps an eye on it for anything Mysterious like vehicles or people on the private property around it that don't belong there.

I think if everyone would take some time and think about it there is some place or persons that they might want to watch for mysterious activity. I think people should try and think about helping out in this country instead of whining about the way it is. It might not be perfect but it is the best I have seen.

I agree with you toolhound, but if your own government can weed out the bad guys, how do they expect it's citizens to?

Well if I saw someone dropping off a big package on a loading dock and not seeming to do anything about having it signed for - or parking atruck in a no load zone and walking away or getting picked up by a car - sure I would say something.

But the fact is I don't hang around any government buildings or public attractions that I would see such a set up. n fact I have avoided going to the Smithsonian now for several years because I feel it is just too dangerous to hang around the Mall.

The people who work every day in those sorts of places should be trained to look for unusual patterns of parking or packages or even movements of such things as maintenance workers. Do they have very visible pass cards and ID for their plumbers and electricians? Do they have a desk abd check out the UPS and FedEx guy every day? I have no idea if they are doing the small but essential items that will really make a difference.

Let's downsize the "law enforcement agency" here to the city/town/community police force. If the PD is smart, they would encourage community involvement to be their eyes, ears etc. Since they are human beings, they can't be everywhere, so they depend on citizens to help out.

Look for this,

Look for that,

listen to yourselves ,
why not look for the idiots who ran this affair so sloppy that millions of undocumented people are here many committing crimes and some planning terror while these imbeciles continue with the same worn out plans or worse restrict everyones freedom because they are to stupid to see the results of their own policies staring them in the face.

Someone needs to explain to the republican leadership that we dont want a bush fiefdom or bob doles mother.

someone needs to explain to the democrats that fools who want to strip our 2nd amendment are not going to win anything without a major fight.
that they need to send blond in every pond and the savings land loan gangs home to arkansas. They need to get carville a job on the x files as the anti cigarette man.

Threats have been coming for years. Not just now. Now they are not threats anymore. Wake up people, we are the land of the free and the home of the brave. Doesn't everyone want to live here and leaders what to rule. The terriorists are jealous because we have a country free to roam. The Bush administration is not the ones talking about threats. Look to the news media it's the writers that stir up the dander of people rile them up to cause cayious (sp). Both parties are at fault but there are some people that can't see beyond their focus and want everyone to blame it on, let's say Democrats or Republicans. Sounds like this forum is Democrat so blame it on the Republicans.

"The Bush administration is not the ones talking about threats."

Say, Libra, are you sure about that? I mean, really, really[ sure?

Would historical fact make any difference to any of you supporters of these shenanigans going on and telling us to watch out for suspicious activity?

If it does, there is plenty of precedence set in both Hitler's Regime and Communist regimes. Like the Fundie Islamic regimes these days, the citizens have given up their rights to the State in order to feel safe. I'll bet that's a short comfort to all of the dead Talibanners that we blew to Kingdom Come. Turning in your neighbor was a favorite pastime for Germans as well as Russians last century. Common sense? Can you guarantee that every person who is going to participate in this hysteria of watching each other for suspicious activities is going to us the Wisdom of Solomon and the Clairvoyance of Edgar Casey to not make a mistake? Would making a mistake and your getting a bullet through your head by the police make you feel better or safer? Shame on any Americans that participate in this kind of scam!
