I'll go find the link, but I'm sure you've all heard about it by now -
2 teenage boys (13 & 14 now) have been charged with the murder of their father. They claim their child-molester friend (that's the lover of the 13 year old) killed their father. The lover guy was already tried for the case and the outcome has been sealed until the teenagers trial is over. The case itself is very bizarro, but the fact there are 2 trials for one case is unbelievable. Have you heard about this yet?

What's important is that the prosecutor gets a win. If they get the guilty party really doesn't effect their career. They figure they are all guilty of something anyway.....

How can this be legal gravid? Either the boys did it or the lover guy did it. If both parties are convicted, one conviction has to be wrong.

When you have a "group" of people tried for the same crime, any defendant can opt for a separate trial, in fact it is safer for the prosecution to have separate trials, because if tried together and they get contradictory verdicts, it is do-over time.
What appear as contradictory verdicts in separate trials are not necessarily thrown out.
But these cases could have problems. I think the key will be the jury instructions. If there is a conspiracy component in the charges, then there shouldn't be a problem.
There are many trials where there are 2 or more charged with a crime and each defendant claims the other one did it. It generally happens is a robbery where someone is killed. A charge of conspiracy or felony murder usually solves the problem.

It would be interesting to find out if any of the three turned States evidence
and a deal was made with the D.A.
Is that why the child molester has a sealed
file?

I think that because of the "antics" of the prosecution in this case, the three should be acquitted. Horrible thought, yes, but obviously the prosecution has a "reasonable doubt" in both cases.
Maybe he will learn to not to pull off these antics anymore......
