The more they stay the same. Case in point, the Florida vote.

Oh boy...and I had read where they'd done a practice run of these new machines, in malls, I believe. Wonder why these problems weren't evident then.

Seems like nothing has worked since Bush has been in office.

(No offence Linda!)

It is being reported that many voters are leaving several polling places in disgust here in South Florida, because they couldn't wait any longer for the new touchscreen machines to get started properly. Apparently there are numerous cases of operating glitches.

None taken, kraftdinner.

Just an embarassment to our voting system.

You're right though Linda... I tend to blame everything on Bush when it's not always the case.

For a couple of elections quite a few years ago I worked sorting ballots once they came in from the precincts. We reviewed each ballot for suitability to run through the computerized machines that read the votes. If they had hanging chads the auto vote counter would get jammed. We always had stacks and stacks of ballots that were rejected. The accepted practice was to fan the ballots and if the hanging chads fell off then it went forward to be counted, if they didn't fall off they were put in the reject pile. The rejects were counted manually only if they would affect the outcome of the election.

The County was heavily democratic and no one seemed the least bit concerned.

What a mess...

http://www.click10.com/mia/news/stories/news-165873620020910-070914.html

Poll workers not showing up on time for polls to open. One polling place didn't open up until 11:45AM when it should have opened at 7:00AM. TRAINED workers not aware when they should have opened up.

Elderly poll workers 'afraid' of new computer-like machines. Some didn't know how to open them up.

Gov. extended poll closing time until 9:00PM at some precincts.

Janet Reno couldn't vote. LOL what a mess.

Four counties in my state, Maryland, have the touch screen system now. The 15 million dollar system was very easy but slow because a lot of people needed help. The desks were in disarray and they were looking for access cards when I arrived....so I hope that my vote counted. LOL

Either Spanish or English could be selected. I think it's a great system but as you suggested, Linda, the workers were up tight!

What made them think that if people were too stupid to punch a hole in a card, they'd be able to work a touchscreen??

Actually it's a big plot by Bush and the Republicans. They knew Republicans being rich, educated, businessmen would naturally have an advantage with the machines.

Guess who's profiting from the sale of the machines?

A glich with the new 15 million dollar voting machines in Montgomery County, MD ....Counties which don't have the touch machines are posting results on the internet but our country has nothing. There is a note that the results are being updated every 5 minutes beginning at 8:15 EST. It's 11.30PM now and no results have been posted for our county either on the net or the news.

My very nonpolitical wife watched the story on the TV and just said "What's wrong with those people anyway?"

I suggested maybe it was something in the water.
