I just read the S&P index closed at 911 today also. Although they claim the S&P close could not have been manipulated to close at 911, it is not as random as the lottery numbers. On the other hand, maybe the lottery in NY is fixed.

Lottery fixed? Why, next thing you'll be suggesting our elections are fixed! Shocking.

Only thing not fixed is nature...and we're working feverishly on that.

I don't know about the lottery, but the SandP 500 is the stuff of urban legend. It closed at 909.45....
close, but no cigar........

It is strange. It brings to mind synchronicity and coincidence. Synchronicity is when two things happen at the same time. An example would be if you were singing a song and it came on the radio at that moment. Coincidence is when you find yourself talking to someone with the same birthday. Have you guys had any amazing synchronous or coincidental events?

Nope! I spend all of my time trying to control the chaos that pervades my existence.

When I was on our city council in Utah, I was talking with a staffer one day and happened to ask where he was from: "Portland." Where in Portland? "We lived on Laurelhurst Park." Where on L. Park? "SW corner of such and such streets." I went home and told my husband, who was also from Portland. He said that's impossible, MY family lived on that corner.

Turned out my husband's family lived in that house right before the other fellow's family did. AND the staffer said "I had the bedroom over the garage." My husband had that bedroom, also, and asked me to ask the staffer if that ugly maroon-striped wallpaper was still on those walls.

This was the biggest coincidence, for us. And what gets me is this: If I hadn't asked where he was from, none of it would have come to light. I keep thinking that, if we all sat down together and just started talking about our lives, we'd find many more of these "coincidences."

Amazing coincidences, yes, but I find a tinfoil beanie helps prevent most occurances.

Roadsmith,

Your experience reminded me of what stusi was referring to..."an amazing synchronous or coincidental event" that happened right here on this chat board!

I noticed another poster whose name corresponded with the name of the road and little town in Mississippi where I was born. When I mentioned that, we found that she lives right across the street from the house in which I was born and knows my relatives who live there now! She doesn't post here now but if you were here a couple of years ago, you may remember the thread.

My roommate and two fellow students from a drama class and I went to a play as part of an assignment. During the break we were talking and discovered that three of us were Pisces. I asked the other two when they were born. One was born on the same day I was. I asked her where and she said xxx, which was where I was born. We were born on the same day, same year, same town, but different hospitals. The school we were attending was no place near where we were born.

I cound have used one of those tinfoil beanies when I mentioned the road and town connection and unknowingly identified her exact location.
