Early voting has been a mixed blessing, as seeing the long lines, many have turned around rather than wait for several hours and will be deterred from voting today. Older voters who can't stand for prolonged periods of time are particularly upset. The ballots contain several pages of 38 elections and election-related issues, 11 complex amendments and 13 county charter questions. Even those who studied the ballot prior to polling will be at the machines for at least 20 minutes. Those who are seniors or who failed to do so or both will be spending 30-60 minutes voting. All this and the fact that the new touchscreen machines are unfamiliar to all may lead to another fiasco.

That's exactly what election officials were concerned about - that long lines would lead people to tire or believe that the machines were malfunctioning and that they would walk away angry, tired and frustrated.

I just voted in Maryland. There was no line which is also a bad sign of voter apathy.

I stand corrected on one aspect. I just voted and there was no line. It took me about 2-3 minutes. The ballot here in Florida was 11 pages, and unless someone studied it before voting I could see large numbers of people taking as much time as I previously stated.

I voted. It may not save the nation, but at least I can still post here.

My precinct usually has a good turnout, but the turnout has been especially heavy today, which is a bit unusual since there aren't any hotly contested, close races or very controversial state questions this year.

I voted at 7:10 am CA time, and only one person was ahead of me, already in the booth. Our ballot was 2 pages, front and back for a total of 4 pages. We are given a pen and we darken an area between two lines for the vote. It doesn't seem *that* difficult. It took me, maybe, 5 minutes, but I had studied my ballot and knew what I was going to do.

Not my name on ebay.

Interestingly, in Florida, in Broward County and other heavily Democratic counties, they are also using the new Touch-Screens. There is a reported glitch: When pressing the Gubernatorial Button, when you press to vote for a Democrat, it registers a vote for a Republican. Ha! Ha! Some glitch!

Borillar- That's true. There are some reports of people voting for McBride and when they hit the "review" button it showed a vote for Bush! They were able to correct it however.

Funny, but if the glitch had been the other way around, you can be sure the Republicans making a big scene about it and casting blame on the Democrats for it. I guess it's all just a matter of class.

Interesting lack of comment about Florida this morning!

rgrem - Okay...I'll step up first.

Looks to me like the Florida voters didn't make the anticipated 'statement' about how the 2000 elections went. Appears that while the state of Florida does have it's problems, the voters are supporting both the President and Jeb.

People who don't vote, don't get represented.

According to Cnn, Florida has just discovered over 100,000 votes that were not counted.

From that link above The missing ballots helped explain why Broward's original numbers showed that just 34.5 percent of the county's registered voters went to the polls. Wednesday's revised numbers said that 441,198 Broward residents actually voted, or 45.1 percent.

[/i]Statewide, 53 percent of all voters went to the polls Tuesday.[/i]

Didn't take them long to find the missing ballots. Better voter turn out than was initially reported.

And it was in the same highly-Democratic area that the Push-for-Democrat, End-up-Voting-Republican as well! I wonder how many other "errors" happened in high Democratic population areas? This race may NOT be over yet, with so many people doing double-checks and whatnot, Jeb might loose after all!

I can only assume that they were caught with 100,000 plus votes that hadn't been disposed of yet?

There was on the news that a few voting machines were having some problems. Every time you pressed the touchscreen for McBride, it placed the vote in Bush's column. One guy had to try 10 or 12 times until it took McBride.

I live in my own little world, but it is Okay...They know me here.

I heard that 24 people voted twice and will be prosecuted for Federal election law violations.
