Not satisfied with a War Chest of over $200 BILLION DOLLARS, Bush has to start taking money where ever he can find it - so loong as it isn't from his rich buddies and the Corporations.

Bush Slashes Fed Raises, blames terror

"CRAWFORD, Texas (CNN) -- President Bush cut pay raises promised to civilian federal employees on Friday, saying that giving them the full pay hikes would threaten the war on terrorism."

Funny. Bush can go leap gaint buildings in a single bound to give $20 BILLION DOLLARS to his rich buddies over there in the airlines so that they could all have fat bonuses that will never end up being paid back.

But, like the millitary going back on it's promises to retirees recently, Bush now wants to make Federal Employees scapegoats. BTW: I'll betcha that this doesn't apply to Upper-Management!

BETRAYER, LIAR, COWARDLY DESERTER, THIEF! That's what we have for a President.

And you're proud to support this trash?

Bush will just use that move to justify screwing the poor people of this country next. What a ruthless animal.

I wonder how many of them voted for Republicans recently BECAUSE they were promised an 18 percent payraise? That Bush waited until the fireworks was over to announce this bit of treachery clearly indicates that the timing was crucial to the last election, and therefore, makes Bush GUTLESS!

Borillar you are character. Can anyone take anything you say seriously? LOL. What a nut.

Federal aid was sent to airlines to keep them afloat which the government does with industries that are important to the U.S. It helps save thousand of jobs.

Not saying I agree with the government giving aid to a dying company that can't survive on its own, but it certainly isn't to pad the pockets of the rich owners, as you say.

How is he a thief? Are you accusing him of pocketing money? He is CEO of the U.S., he is entitled to distribute money as he sees fit.

Oh, the poor workers won't get a raise, that's sad. Maybe Bush should give them a raise then lay off thousands in order to make the budget.

Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

quickdraw, your facts are uncoordinated. The bailout was given because airlines were already threatening to lay off thousands of airline employees. The bailout was given, but then the airlines went ahead and laid off thousands of employees anyway. The 20 Billion dollar bailout was then spread among upper management as Christmas Bonuses. There has never been any mention of a repayment plan for the bailout. Don't you have a problem with that?

''Federal aid was sent to airlines to keep them afloat which the government does with industries that are important to the U.S. It helps save thousand of jobs.''

Well I guess you don't live around Atlanta because if you did you would know that federal aid didn't save one single airline job here - the number of airline employees given the pink slip since Sept. 11 in the Atlanta area alone totals more than 50,000 - MORE THAN 50,000. The federal aid was used to give incentives to leave "voluntarily" - it was not used by the airlines to keep people employed but to entice them to leave.

I'm sorry to hear that, Hard. However, you may not know that the money was also used to give GIGANTIC bonuses in the milti-million dollar range to upper-mangement at the same time. Where did that money come from? It came from the Bailout. And I STILL haven't been able to find anything on the Internet or TV that ever mentioned a repayment plan for the bailout. I guess with, who was it this week - American Airlines or United that was going to declare bankruptsy? When they go Bankrupt, the first thing forgiven is likely to be their share of the Bailout. And don't tell me that Bush wasn't aware of this from the beginning either!

John D. Donahue, who teaches at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government predicted the failure of the bailout and compared it to the Chrysler bailout.

"The most common form of stupidity is forgetting what we are trying to accomplish," wrote Frederick Nietzsche. Our goals in responding to the airline crisis must be to ensure efficient and secure air travel capacity; to avoid needless job losses; to minimize adjustment costs; and to uphold norms of economic fairness. A bailout that simply shores up corporate balance sheets is unlikely to be the best way -- perhaps not necessary; certainly not sufficient -- to accomplish these tasks.

At least with the 2 Billion dollar Chrystler Bail-Out, Lee Ioccoa made a big deal about the HONORABILITY of repaying the loan. I still recall Crystler making its last payment, many years ahead of schedule, because they had Honor. You don't and WON'T hear a whisper about "repayment" from either the airlines or from Bush or the GOP.

Not exactly Borillar, the aid money wasn't to save the jobs that were already planned to be layed-off, it's to indirectly save jobs that would have been layed off due to the 9-11 event.

There were thousand of companies big and small that received aid money that were effected by 9-11.

The Christmas Bonuses is a different story, it's used to retain the executives they already have. If they don't offer it, they leave. Of course they don't deserve the bonus, but it is also not their fault the recession has hurt the travel industry.
