I have come across what I believe is a 1953 Schwinn Phantom. The serial number starts with J, then has 8 numbers after it (not 6 like all the sites I have found info on). I have pictures of it if you'd like to see it. My question is why does it have 8 numbers after the J? It's a green and silver bike and all the ones I've seen are Red or Black.

Thanks! I already searched all the sites for a couple hours this morning. In fact, that's how I got so confused! So, I was just hoping someone knows something about old Schwinn bike and can tell me if this one is vintage or a reproduction.

I had a Schwinn Corvette. The baseball cards I put in the spokes for the sound effects included Mickey Mantles and others that would now be worth tens of thousands!

Well the "J" code indicates it was manufactired in 1953. One other site indicated that it did con\me in four colors, not just the red & black.

Try this site, it has great pictures and dates of the bikes. You should be able to get your info here.
Just click on the year and model.
