Found this neat trick to end those computer dialed telemarketers. Works the same way as that high priced "Telezapper".
Go to google.com & search for the file "Sit.wav".
Once you find the file, play it back through your speakers so you can
record the tone with your answering machine or your voice mail. After the
tone, voice your regular message. You don't have to use all three notes.
The first will suffice, so your legitimate callers won't be put off.
There is one downside. While the TeleZapper emits the tone whenever
you answer the phone, this workaround only works when your answering
machine or voice mail answers the call.

Thanks Bear. I downloaded it from Junk Busters about a month ago from http://www.junkbusters.com/ at Sit Tone.wav . I have been a bit apprehensive to use it, though. Most people know this three pitch tone to mean that it is a dead phone line and I am not sure how my customers would feel about it. I suppose my home telephone line would would be fine if I tell everyone I know about it. Unfortunately, I have too many people calling me up on lodge business on my home phone, so I haven't used it at all - yet.

In New York, we are on the "Do Not Call" list and it works wonderfully!
Several telemarketers recently got fined a couple hundred thousand dollars for violating the "Do Not Call". I guess they were testing Spitzer's resolve AND LOST!

We call them our heroes...but we pay them like chumps

Same thing happened here. "Do Not Call" list and several telemarketing firms decided to try it out. They lost several hundred thousand dollars in fines. The system works great.

Brollar...From additional reading on this neat trick, you can record just the first note, not all 3 & it still works.
In Texas we too have the "no call list". Cost $4.99 for 5 years.
But it does not prevent telemarketers from companies with which you have dealt with in the past from contacting you.
My phone on my desk beside the computer, a call comes in, if I don't recognize the number displayed on the caller ID, they get the zap signal.

Well I hope this works but starting January 1 Wisconsin has a telemarketer no call list. I hope it works and if it doesn't I for one will find out who they are and report them. We have them even calling at 10am on Sunday.
