I am currently a new PayPal member. What I have been reading on the message boards is very unsettling. I am seriously considering closing my PayPal account and going with another CC company. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a good CC company?

The last thing any of us needs is someone taking control of our money!!!!!!!!!

I've been using Paypal for a couple of years now with not one problem. I never leave money in my account. That's what a bank is for. It's money in, money out. I find it unfathomable that anyone would leave thousands of dollars in their Paypal account. Just my opinion, but I'd stick with them. Since Paypal is now part of Ebay, I think the buyers prefer using it. I myself, would be leary of using anyone else's credit card system.

I never leave money in there either, but what if you get chargebacks and are unable to get your money back for 75 days, with proper proof and information, of course? That's what scares me. I need every penny from the items I sell. (With the exception of PayPal fees taken into consideration.) Are they going to take money out of my account to cover these chargebacks without me finding out until it's too late? I will admit, I think PayPal is great. I just keep hearing these horror stories, and it's scaring me.

Is PayPal for the buyers only? Do we, as sellers, have any protection? What can we do to protect ourselves?

I like to CMOA, as I'm sure we all do. Is there something we, as sellers, can do to get PayPal to change there treatment of it's sellers?

Now that they are part of Ebay, I doubt it. Even if you choose another company, won't you still have chargeback worries? I guess it's a crap shoot.

Yes, you are right. There will still be chargeback worries. Is there any way we can make a difference? If only there was a way.~~~~~sigh~~~~~~

I do enjoy the convenience of PayPal. I think it is great. Never got money so fast in my life. LOL! It just scares me that it can be taken away just as easily as it was given.

If there is a chargeback, can PayPal debit your account? Forgive all the worries and the questions. PayPal is still very new to me.

Here is a place to have your own merchant account,If you want to go that route.Very
cheap, to what I paid in bank fees for my account. Also bidpay is prefered by some buyers.

Paypal is very popular with buyers and well integrated into the Ebay scheme. If I were you, I would set up a checking account with a small balance so that you don't have to worry about it. If you are selling relatively inexpensive items, you shouldn't have a problem with it.

Thank you Helen. That is a very good idea. I may do just that. I'll set up an account just for PayPal.

Spend some time on paypals site and really read the rules over. I think a lot of the problems come from a lack of knowledge of how paypal works because people are in a hurry to sign up but never read what they agree to when they hit the submit button.

I have a Paypal account (as most all of do). On my web page (exclusive of Ebay), I sell 45 ACP brass for reloading. Some of these people have never used or heard of Paypal & still want to pay by CC.

So I enrolled with ProPay. I could send a invoice through ProPay that the buyer could enter his own info for payment or they could send me their CC number (I never liked having that info).

One customer purchased $375.00 plus shipping, in brass from me. He sent me his CC number authorizing the transaction.

As soon as ProPay notified me the transaction was authorized, I shipped the brass from my warehouse. Had the UPS tracking number and all. Then I transfered the funds from my ProPay account to my business checking account.

Two month later I get a email from ProPay stating the customer was contesting the charges on the grounds that he did not authorize the sale. I faxed all the info I had, including emails from him where he had given me the CC account number & the ship to address.

Two weeks later I get another email from ProPay stating that I had provided insufficent info to provide he had authorized the charge, & they were going to deduct the total amount from my balance.

Too bad, I had already transfered the funds months ago, leaving a balance of $0.25. TO this day the idiot still has the brass & my propay account shows a negative balance.

The moral.....Use Paypal or USPS money orders.

As long a you can provide delivery confirnation, (USPS DC or UPS tracking #) you are covered.

And DON'T leave very much money in your PayPal account.
