A plan is being proposed to pay Iraqi military commanders not to fight and subsequently pay Hussein to go into exile. As implausible as this is, it is said that we have nothing to lose. Could this set a dangerous precedent whereas other lunatics hold us for ransom?

Paying for peace is nothing new. It's worked into aid and trade agreements. Why do you think the trade deficit is so high between the U.S. and China?

Hi kraft! Although trade has been used to mollify certain vested interests, I can't recall any military leaders actually being paid to lay down their arms or go into exile. Does anyone remember such a circumstance?

I suspected that they did it for Marcos of the Phillipines and Noriaga of Panama. You can say how we all went there to get them, but that's the Hollywood version for ya!
