Thought I would share this comical email I received today. Thanks, dad!

Although this looks like a picture taken from a Hollywood movie, it is in fact a real photo, taken near the South African coast during a military exercise by the British Navy.

It has been nominated by National Geographic as "THE photo of the year".

The question is....

Is the photo real? There appears to be no splash where the shark is exiting the water and I doubt he has been standing there awhile waiting and the splash has subsided.

Edited to add:
The Real Story

If this photo is real...how did South Africa get the Golden Gate Bridge there??????

It's easy!

An image link should look like this.

Remove the $ that I added to the ending tag so that it will work.

It's a fantastic photo!

Shark "Photo of the Year" Is E-Mail Hoax

Stentor Danielson
National Geographic News
August 15, 2002

A photograph that has been circulating on the internet showing a shark leaping out of the water to attack a helicopter, is a fake. The composite image, which claims to be National Geographic's "Photo of the Year," was spliced together from a U.S. Air Force photo taken near San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge and a photo of a shark from South Africa.

There was an amusing event earlier in the year near Catelina Island. A middle aged fellow was out fishing with his buds on a fair sized power boat and a playful whale breaching didn't see them and landed square across the boat wrecking the flying bridge and scraping itself up pretty good as it slid back off into the ocean. When they looked up and saw that puppy coming down I bet the deck was wet before the whale landed.

How funny! That would have made one amazing photo.
