Today driving up I-75 North of Detroit in Oakland county I saw a man up on the bridge by the Great Lakes Crossing mall.
It was very cold - around 20 - with a hard wind blowing at his exposed position and he was probably 50 years old or more but he was standing quietly with a US flag on a pole like you would use to carry it in a parade. It was upside down in a sign of distress. It's not the sort of thing you see in affluent suburbia, and he was still there when I came back the same way South later.
I got a message of how important he considered it by the discomfort he was willing to endure.
Quite a contrast to the crowds on TV to see this one fellow stubbornly doing his best all alone.

What an impressive and moving effort for one man to make. If I had a photograph, I would paint a picture.
