Sure! We all need a laugh... A Pak-O-Lies debate... guaranteed to go nowhere but entertaining for the masses.

I would rather see the president answer to this nation's leaders.

I would rather see this nation's leaders become something more than a pack of fearful yes-men, smiling and waving this country down the path of global disaster.

First, I can see no harm that it would do to have this debate. Oh, sure, some complain that it would legitimize Saddam's positions. (are we so afraid of that -- think about it) Everyone else remembers what a dope Dubya was during the Presidential Debates and few Americans really want to embarrass ourselves further with this President of ours. And should Dubya look more like a jerk than he already is, wouldn't that fuel the fires of anti-War types? You know it would!

But you have to look at the bigger picture. If this stops a War and the killing to come -- wouldn't that be a good reason why we ought to have this debate? Right now, there's next to hope of a peaceful solution. At this point, any hope of an olive branch is better than none.

Lastly, consider this: Dubya is standing at the bar on a sunny day, sipping his bear and talking to some of his friends. His gun is holstered and his spurs on his boots are silent. Only the buzzing of flies fills the air with any sound. Then it comes.

"I'm calling you OUT, BUSCHE!" an Iraqi-accented voice calls from the street outside. "It'll be a fair fight - you and me! We'll settle this TEXAS-STYLE Man-to-Man, Mono-e-mono, once and for all; that is, if you're a Man!"

Dubya pees on himself.

"C'mon out!" the irritated voice insists, "I'm'a waitn' fer ya!"

Everyone's looking at Dubya and the puddle of pee forming on the wooden planks. Dubya doesn't say a word, walks on over to the bathroom, and slams the door. "I'm too much of a Man for ya, Saddam!" he yells back, quite muffled and doubtless never reaching the street. "I've got my military to back me up in a Fair Fight!"

Sound weird? Consider that this very thing happened, so to speak. Saddam really has challenged Dubya to a duel! Mono-e-mono, Texas-style, just Bush and Hussein fighting it out to the death. And Bush's answer was quite predictable.

Since then, Saddam has been calling Dubya a Coward! And since he can't get Dubya to go be Man enough for America, Big Shot President that he is, Saddam now is challenging him to a Debate. As a PR coup, can we really afford to give Saddam that much more international prestige if Dubya backs down from this one? Won't the world see Americans as Cowards, then?

Now you understand why this rhetoric is going on. Personally, I'd like to see them square off somewhere gladiator-style in a stadium televising the event.

Thats not how its done, and ya know it

Shoot, when Pres. Clinton sent troops to Iraq in '98, would you have wanted him to go 'face off' with Saddam?

But if your playing this game, ok, I think that Bush would beat the sh*t outta him.

He works out everyday...probably has that good old boy straight shootin down... and Saddam? everytime you see him, its OLD FILE TAPE... he hasn't been on camera for a very long time... plus he's a fat pig. Sure he shoots off his shotgun into a crowd of his own people, God only knows who he shoots doing that, but thats just a blind shot.

And where is this going to happen? Saddam Hussien has NOT left Iraq in over 30? years, and then only to attend a Univ. in Cairo for I think it was less than 2 years. He WON'T leave. Bush has gone around the world, other leaders travel, Saddam does not. So I guess it would have to take place in Baghdad?

whatever

NTS, you're missing the point. The point is that the challenge to a duel was great PR for Saddam to his people and to his neighbors. Now he's making it easier for a face-to-face confrontation with this request for a televised debate If Bush continues to refuse this request, not only will arabs and his own people get a lot of mileage out of it, but quite liekly Bush will be seen as a coward to many countries. Can we afford to have that happen?

Debate????

Crap - Give 'em pistols and let them settle it without killing thousands of other people.

Sad to say I'd have to give Saddam ten to one odds he'd know which end of a pistol to grab.

I have to agree with Near. Saddam would lose because he's way too bloated. If Bush was smart, he's send him more salt.

>if your being serious Borillar, I don't know what to say..

I am absolutely serious. The White House has not wanted it to be well known how Saddam mounts his PR campaigns, Bush only likes media clips to show that Saddam is a madman. Like when Saddam publically calls Bush a coward. Who knew what the hell Saddam was talking about? But a lot of folks over there did and so do many foreign countries that are swing votes on upcoming partners for War or on UN resolutions. They hear it all and it does have an propaganda effect -- much like Colin Powel's "facts" that turned out to be bogus and Bush's statement that the Top Econonomist Report had backed up his plan to snow-shovel more taxpayer money at the Ultra Rich. It did what it was supposed to.

Now we have it where Bush can hardly deny Saddam a chance to face his own accuser. After all, isn't that just what Americans are always going on about? That if Bush does not take up the offer to debate Saddam and to make him look like a fool, Saddam will use it world-wide to make Bush look like a complete liar about everything and Americans complete cowards.

Can we afford that, NTS?

Bush continued to Chicken Out today about the ongoing questions about the deabte with Saddam. Ari Fletcher refused to comment on it, as usual.

I think Saddam should be brought to the US as soon as possible for a debate.

I'd agree to that one! Bring Saddam here for a debate! The guy needs to get out once in awhile anyway.

No the United States is the best place for Saddam to come and debate. We'll even give him an hour of free air time from his prison cell.

It is absurd to support a debate with a butcher like Hussein and anyone.

Why don't you waste your time trying to get Charles Manson to debate the District Attorney ? It makes about as much sense.

It is rumored that Saddam has suffered a stroke affecting one side of his body. That is why he was seen firing guns with only one hand and arm. The other side doesn't have the strength.
