I live in Michigan, and in this time of the year, right before Fat Tuesday eating a Packzi is the thing to do. I'm starting this thread to ask two things.
1. Have you ever heard of a Packzi?
2. And, if so, what state do you live in.
In case you don't know a Packzi, (pronounced poonch-key or punch-key) is a highly fattening and most tasty donut type pastry made with a very rich dough. Then its filled with elaborate fruit or custard fillings and then glazed. These items originated in Poland. In the metro Detroit Michigan area, they are very popular. This is likely because inside the city limits of Detroit is another city called Hamtramak. Hamtramak for about the last 125 years was primarily Polish. Bakeries is the Hamtramak area do a tremendous business before Fat Tuesday.

Curse you! NowI want one. Put some on ebay! I used to have a friend that would overnight Krispy Kreme donuts to me before they started opening them on the west coast. I got good laugh during Christmas when I saw someone had put auctions for 1 and 2 dozen KK donuts overnighted up... and they were selling

Packzi are interesting because it doesn't matter what diet you are on - they are scientifically designed to bust low fat as well as Atkins diets. Huge carbo/fat bombs that skinny people bring in big tray fulls to the office in hopes of retaining a few fat people to distain for another year. That's about how long it takes to lose the effects of three or four. Yes people eat that many of a morning. What is even more upsetting is to see the current generation washing a few down with a huge Coke that all alone has enough sugar to make your pancreas curl up in defeat like a dead bug.
I knew that you would know about them. Having read this board as long as I have, I knew that you live in metro Detroit. You always have great writing skills and are knowledgable about many things. What is the plural of Packzi? Is it the same as the singular?
Also, you are right about the fattening effects of them. Even walking by the emppty box will cause you to gain weight.

Never heard of them while living in both southern and northern [central] CA. Never heard of them here either [AR]. Maybe this is a good thing for me?

I'm ashamed to say my wife is Polish/German - Kashub, and I still don't know how to spell the plural.
L and L market here in Rochester Hills is having a contest - the fastest no hands packzi eater who publicly humiliates himself scarfing one down gets a dozen free. I guess you just throw it on the counter and dive in like a dog.
Why will people do things like that?
Oh well.

Yup, I've had them - my favorites are lemon filled or cream filled ones with powdered sugar (sorry, glaze or regular sugar doesn't just isn't the same.....). I live in Michigan and the bakeries in town finally got smart this year and realized if they sold Packzi for a week or two before Fat Tuesday, they could make more $$$ instead of selling them just one day.
Of course, these aren't your regular filled donuts/bismarcks - they have a lot of eggs in the dough, so they have mega calories, but hey, that's why they call it Fat Tuesday!

Activity this morning in the New Deluxe bakery in Hamtramak. Many people from all over the metro Detroit area travel to bakeries like this in Hamtramak, instead of buying a "pretend packzi" from donut shops in their town.
