Gave me goose bumps....can only imagine how elated her whole family must be feeling right now. What absolutely fabulous news.
She has a strong, loving and supportive family who will now help her work out whatever she has had to go through these past 8 months.

Yeah! this is great news in a world that is usually nothing but not so good news!
I'm totally amazed, happy for her, her family, and I'm sure it gives hope for others who have loved ones missing.

Unbelieveable! I'd definately call that a miracle. There's an upcoming news briefing on CNN at 7:00 EST. Her parents must be in shock. I wish the same thing would happen for Laci Peterson's family.

I agree KD, that would be wonderful too. Hard not to give up hope as the months pass. But all that must be quickly forgotten when they're back in your arms again.
Fox news said her father couldn't even speak...he just held her tight. They're both at the police station and she's talking with the police, explaining what has happened.

This has been a day full of joys and griefs for me. Two insurance companies paid me today via my lawyer for severe injuries I received as a pedestrain hit by an auto. Yay!
Then I came home to find the police around my townhome building at around 5:00 PM, and discovered that my nearest neighbor, the sweetest little old lady you could imagine, had had a bad fall, was incoherent, had likely had a stroke and was taken away in an ambulance. No one realized until hours after she missed her hair apppointment this morning, even though other elderly neighbors check on her daily. The police had broken in to find out if she was okay. She wasn't. I was really bummed out and knew she would likely be going into a rest home, and never be back to her home again. It was heart wrenching to know that she had been laying there, while I was home earlier today, just yards away and I didn't know she needed help. The tears are coming again, so I'll stop. I don't usually share grief except with my family or closest friends. I hope this was not too much to put here.
Then I heard Elizabeth Smart had been found alive and safe. Joy for me again, and feeling heartfelt joy for her family.
And the tears get dried and life goes on.
I truly believe that which doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Thanks for listening. Because I know you will.

meadowlark,
Very sorry to hear about your friend and of course about your being hit by a car.
I pray that all will be well.
We have to keep an eye on our elderly neighbors. The pace of the world today seems to make us more introverted. We keep more to ourselves and don't watch out for those around us. Not because we don't care...just because it's tough to make a living today and we just don't have the time.
I heard the story about Elizabeth Smart being found yesterday. It was uplifting to say the least. We need many more news reports of children being found safe and well.
It was truly the best new report I've seen in many months.
Amen,
Reverend Colin

This article gives a few 'tidbits' that I'd not heard before.
In November, the Kirkland Police Department and the King County Sheriff's Office began investigating a letter found at a Kirkland convenience store indicating Smart was alive and in this area. Sheriff's Sgt. Kevin Fagerstrom said the note appeared to have been written by a girl living in the Firloch neighborhood in the Kingsgate area. The note, Fagerstrom said, indicated Smart was staying with this girl and was "safe and well and did not wish to be reunited with her family, but wanted her parents to know that she was safe."
The 'preacher' wanted a second 'wife'. To me, it was disturbing to hear how the police didn't follow the lead when the youngest Smart daughter/sister said she thought the kidnapper may have been this 'Emanuel'. It was the family that sought out help from the media and press, posted a picture of 'Emanuel', in working on the latest lead they had.

That's an awful thing to go through meadowlark. You sound like a pretty positive person so I have a feeling you'll do just fine.
I agree with you colin.
One thing that 'bothered' me last night, was when Ed Smart came on TV and said Elizabeth was returned safely because everyone in the country was praying for her. Don't misunderstand me... I can't imagine the elation that family is going through, but his statement made me feel bad for the other families with missing children. Like if they prayed a bit more, their kids might return too. Do you know what I mean? Other than that, I do think it's a miracle.

Wow, thats how much I pay attention to our local news! Never heard that, until you posted the link Linda.
But then I remember hearing that some clerk in a convience store in Vancouver WA (not B.C.) said they had seen Laci Peterson, in fact that Laci Peterson told her to 'call the police, she had been kidnapped' and then the clerk forgot about it, and didn't
that was too weird, I think the clerk did that for attention, some people, I swear!

Mark Klaas was on Larry King last night, and the "prayer" comments pissed him off as well.

ah heck, I wasn't going to comment on that, but they are Mormon, what else would they say. They are a deeply religious Mormom family.

Dear NeartheSea, Colin, and Kratfdinner,
Thanks for your kind words! Truth is, I recovered so quickly, I was slightly embarrassed about spilling my guts!
There is a local family (in cental Texas) whose teenage daughter, Rachel Cooke, was abducted as well. January 10, 2002 Rachel, an accomplished cross-country runner, left her home in the Northlake development on FM 3405 northwest of Georgetown, Texas (north of Austin) on the morning of Thursday, January 10, 2002, to go on her usual 3-4 mile morning jog around the neighborhood. Sometime around 11 AM, near the end of her run and possibly within 200 yards of home, she disappeared. Her story was recently featured on the Montel Williams show.
Last night on the local news, Rachel's father said that the families who are involved in these high-profile cases are in regular phone contact with each other. He said they'd spoken on the phone already with the Smarts and the news of Elizabeth's return was bittersweet for them.
If you have any information on Rachel, please contact the Willimason County sherrif's department. Crimestoppers is offering a $50,000 reward. Here's a few links:
