Dixie Chicks Explain Anti-Bush Comment
Thu Mar 13, 4:57 PM ET
(3/13/03, 5 p.m. ET) -- The Dixie Chicks are stirring up controversy with a recent negative comment about President Bush while overseas promoting their current album, Home.
The trio performed a live show in London on Monday (March 10th) night, and Natalie Maines (news) told the crowd, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas."
That statement prompted all kinds of reactions from the American public, causing the group to further explain their stance on their official website. "We've been overseas for several weeks and have been reading and following the news accounts of our government's position," the group explains. "The anti-American sentiment that has unfolded here is astounding. While we support our troops, there is nothing more frightening than the notion of going to war with Iraq (news - web sites) and the prospect of all the innocent lives that will be lost."
Maines also says, "I feel the President is ignoring the opinions of many in the U.S. and alienating the rest of the world. My comments were made in frustration and one of the privileges of being an American is you are free to voice your own point of view."
The Dixie Chicks will perform another live show in Munich, Germany on March 19th.

LOL, Reamond....I tell you what. As old retired folks we have NEVER been so politically active as we all are now.
One of our Senators, Blanche Lincoln [D-AR], has caused the Republican party here to really begin to put a BIG effort towards removing her from office come 2004. Then our other Senator, Mark Pryor [D-AR] is receiving lots of emails from those of us who are upset with him because he's one of those blocking M. Estrada's nomination, among other issues.
Then we're busy supporting [via email and donations] both WePledge.com and their work and also Grassfire.net and the work they're doing.
In between all this our keyboards are working overtime passing around emails on these yo-yo's like the Dixie Chicks...so they can 'hear' the voice of the 'other side'.
So...the Dixie Chicks info. has been passed to all on our email [activist] list. LOL

Good Morning Colin - I'd LOVE to put you on our email circle. But since I first began posting on AW, I've stayed anonymous. When I first was just a lurker...around 5 years or so ago...people who didn't agree with your stance on any subject would mess with people's ebay auctions. Mean, hateful people who thought nothing of taking revenge on peoples [sometimes] only source of income. Sad.
But...here are some websites you might want to check out.
http://grassfire.net You can sign up or not. If you do sign up they'll automatically send you emails as the different issue arise. If you agree with their position, all you do is send an email to the appropriate person [group]. Very simple...just fill out your letter [on their site] and they forward it to the appropriate source.
http://www.wepledge.com. Right now...they're asking for support to keep the "In God We Trust" on our coinage and in our pledge.
http://www.reclaimamerica.org/ Center For Reclaiming America. Lots of current issues to choose from on the left side of their home page.
Two that we all love for keeping abreast of what's currently happening in Congress, and they each provide a section to make direct contact with your own representatives are:
Congress.org - At the top of their home page is a "megavote" bar. If you click on that you can sign up to receive emails on how your representatives have voted, and what issues will soon be voted on. That way you can make your thoughts known to your representatives BEFORE they vote. Or let them know you disagreed with how they did vote. Or thank them for voting the way they did...
Another you could do a 'search' for is the 'Legislative Action Center'. On their site you can send letters to the Congress, the President and the Media. http://www.capwiz.com/yo-demo/home/
Other than that when we see articles posted we send those to one another. What one usually can do is find the site's 'about me or contact us' page. There you can make your thoughts known to them.
Glad you asked?

Local radio stations in the Houston, Austin & San Antonio & DFW (TX) areas (that I know of) have STOPPED playing the chicks music is protest of their criticism.

While I agree the comment wasn't in good taste. . .this IS America and we ARE entitled to express our opinions whether or not someone else may find it offensive. I find sitting next to a bunch of drunken idiots hoopin' and a hollerin' at a football game offensive, too. Should they be tar and feathered? "Freedom of Speech", or is that only tolerated in certain circumstances when it doesn't refer to government issues. Get used to it ladies and gentlemen. Plenty of comments will be made in the coming months that you may not like. That's life.

Actually Cheryl, people are just expressing their own freedom of speech by not supporting the Dixie Chicks, we are a forgiving country, for the most part, and in the future the chicks will be back up there, but people have to realize, having the right to say something is not the same as "should" you say something.

Sean Penn now has a lawsuit against a company he claimed dropped him from a new movie because of his activities.
How stupid are these people??? They have a right to stand on any soapbox they choose. But then they think they can involve other people in their beliefs. I think the negative impact will be quite small, but to "volunteer" the producers of your next movie to take even such a small hit is the height of arrogance.
