Unfortunately, it appears he is still alive. I was channel hopping, trying to catch it, and caught just the end of his TV address.

I assume that the NBC translation was an literal and exact because otherwide, he seemed to make very little sense and to simply repeat himself over and over. Interesting though that the talking heads made no comment of his comments to France.
