I had to have my 20 year old cat, Guy, put to sleep yesterday. I could never repay him for the happiness he gave me. I love you Guy.

Thats rough. Our pets become such a part of our lives that they become irreplaceable.

I have two cats that I can't imagine being without. They are such charachters that it never gets boring around here with them. Sorry to hear about yours.

Dear Kraft.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I really do feel your pain.

A few years back, the cat I had for 12 years became diabetic. I had to start giving him insulin shots daily, then later twice per day. I am a total wimp when it come to needles, but screwed up my courage and did it anyway so he could live. Because I was able to do it, he lived another 6 months.

Then one evening, he had a stroke and my husband and I took turns sitting up all night with him until we could go to the vet in the morning. We had to have him put to sleep, and stood by as the vet gave the injection. The vet quietly slipped out of the room while we spent one last moment. I had cried most of the night and was all cried out.

I have only seen my husband, my loving best friend of 25 years, cry twice. He sobbed loudly in the treatment room for a minute or so, then we composed ourselves and left. I know everyone in the building heard him and was compassionately supportive as we left.

Pets do bring us so much joy, though. Like any other relationship in life, the deep pleasure of a good friend and companion far outweighs the pain of separation at death.

Here's a scan of an old photo to show some of the silly joy this cat gave. He is 18.5 lbs. and trying to squeeze in a birdfeeder so he can stay out in the misting rain.

Very sorry to hear of your lose.

I've got seven good friends/family living here at the moment. Some are in their late teens. We wouldn't want to be without any of them...Even though they can be a real pain in the butt sometimes.

Amen,
Reverend Colin

kraftdinner,

The greatest thank you we can give our old friends is to ease their suffering. We had to put our oldest cat to sleep last Christmas. She was 16. For a while we were having to go thru it once a year, as our ageing friends reached their time to go. Now, all the house cats and the barn cats are young, nobody is over 4 years old...I still miss the old cats. They have a beauty and grace, a presence that younger ones just haven't earned yet. If you don't have another pet, go get yourself another kitten right away. You won't dishonor Guy, and your new family member will make your mourning a lot easier.

Kraftdinner,

I'm so sorry. I had to have a dog with cancer put to sleep so I know how you are feeling. He sat down one day and couldn't stand again.

There is nothing more loyal and comforting than a good pet. I know that you will miss him so much.

Helen

Sorry to hear that, Kraftdinner. I've no doubt that Guy knew how much he was appreciated.
My 18 yr old tabby, Marty, is starting to show his age and I find myself more attached and mushy towards him than ever.

austbounty- your always inappropriate comments are particularly out of place in this thread! Do you have any sense that a political statement is not always necessary and may turn an otherwise non-political thread into one? BACK OFF!

You know what's wrong with cats & dogs, they just don't live long enough. I have eight cats & two dogs ranging from 5 years to fifteen years old.

The pain of losing even one is unbearable, and thinking about it is unbearable too.

kraftdinner, meadowlark, profe51 & helenjw I honestly feel your pain, I am so sorry.

meadowlark, that is one great picture, I keep going back to look at it. What a neat guy, sitting in there as if to say "What are you looking at"

KD: I feel it! We had to put Teddy-Pups to sleep SAT too! He went into kidney failure. My son was a mess.

TEDDY was my 10yo grandaughter's 8yo Cairn Terrier & the sweetest kid ever whelped!

I truly dread the day when I will have to face it with Ralphie!

Then my mother had another Heart Attack & her hospice caregivers seem a bit detached.

Seems like a bunch of S**T is hitting all at once!

Many thanks for your kind words and stories {{{{{my friends}}}}}. They helped me through a couple of rough days without Guy and I appreciate it more than anything. It's unfortunate that it's a sure thing we can all relate to, eh? Thank-you everyone.

So very sorry to hear of your loss! I don't have a cat or a dog, I have a Cockateil named Mac (short for Macadamia). He's great at whistling the Andy Griffith show. He gets very noisy, but only when he wants attention and we ignore him.

Had a cat two years ago that got outside and drowned in a neighbor's pool. He was walking on the pool cover and I guess he fell in. We never knew it until spring. Talk about being guilt ridden. We thought he had run away. It's difficult, I know.

God bless you and your family.

Tom, I'm sorry to hear about Teddy-Pups.

As for Ralphie - I wish him a long life filled with endless kibble, a perpetually warm pile of laundry and a chew toy that never dries out. Ralphies opinions are highly valued by all of us on EO

As for your mother. I wish her a quick recovery and I feel your pain. There is nothing more frustrating than the person entrausted with a loved ones well being does not hold them in the same regard as you.

Neo: thanks for the very kind thoughts!

She does sound somewhat better this am, but it is really a matter of time. At least she lives in a really nice assisted-living complex in Deland FL!

The wierd thing is that her DR refuses to see her anymore & the hospital will not allow her back! I've never heard of anything like that before, & I worked in medicine (Ophthalmology) for over 30 years!

The only care she is allowed anymore is Hospice! Seems like she has been registered with the Eskimo-On-The-Ice-Flow Medical Care Plan!

McJane,

Yeah,

I made that one picture into a big 4 x 6" fridge magnet. That's why is is so worn. It was taken about 6 years ago.

And you are right about the "attitude". His name was Mister Harry, accent on the "Mister"!

Patty,
well, I'm back again just to look at that picture.

Attitude could have been his middle name, he's really got it. I love his expression.
