Disgusting and extremely sad.
Lobotomy may bee the only good for these people and the rest of us, if they are guilty.

One thing that made me curious though was the article’s repeated identification of the mother’s race,
“Maria Angela Camacho” but I didn’t catch a mention of the husband’s race, ”John Allen Rubio”,
If he is not Mexican too then CNN has clearly demonstrated a motive or propensity for displaying ‘bad Mexican’ stories.

Actually, I think they mentioned her race as it is also her country of origin. She's not a citizen of the US and this did take place in Texas.

"Camacho, 23, who is a Mexican citizen, and Rubio, 22, of Brownsville..." No real point in mentioning that Rubio is an American citizen, as it says he's from Brownsville. If it had happened IN MEXICO, I'm sure they'd say "Camacho of Matamoros and Rubio, an American citizen...".

Get it?

The article makes no mention of race. It gives the citizenship of both parties. It does mention the woman's twice,...big deal.

Please keep in mind that being "Mexican" has about as much to do with race as being "American" or "Australian" does.

It just goes to show that nice respectable white Americans like Scott Peterson don't have the grisly murder market cornered.

a recent update....

"Weeks before Mary Jane was born, Child Protective Services had closed an eight-month investigation into the couple, launched because they were homeless and the children malnourished. They had completed parenting classes and were living in an apartment, and their children's immunizations were updated and they were gaining weight."

"Camacho told an investigator they had killed the children because they were too poor to support them and they didn't want to see them suffer, the investigator told a judge at a March 18 bond hearing. Another detective said the parents told police after their arrest that they thought the children were possessed."

"Camacho, an undocumented immigrant originally from Matamoros, Mexico, told police she was unemployed, and Rubio said he worked as a prostitute."

Child protective services may have dropped the ball on this one

It could have happened in any of the U.S. states bordering on Mexico. The fact that it occured in Texas is irrelevant except for the fact that you can bet both will get the death penalty.

The fact is the both were illegal immigrants from Mexico and he had "WORKED" as a prostitute.

well about the one time I agree with profe.... being MEXICAN isn't the same as a race. Like he said, as being American, or Australian does NOT define your race

That's pretty much what I was trying to say, but it was 4 a.m. and my brain had't caught up to my fingers. All I could see was Ausbounty going off about things that had little to do with the story at hand.

How sad. I'm sure the defense lawyers will plead insanity. I don't think there is a jury out there that will buy that one. Seeing that it happened in Texas, they will get their just deserts.

I did the same thing in Cancun clivebarkerfan. I asked the waiter if he knew how to speak English instead of Mexican.

Ok, I wasn’t stating it accurately to say “article’s repeated identification of the mother’s race”, I should have said ‘country of origin’.
The problem is, as here in Australia; too often the media mentions the ‘alleged criminal’s’ or criminal’s ‘race’, ‘nationality’, or ‘type’, and yet it would be unusual to read ‘White Anglo-Saxon Protestant”, even though it may be such a person in many instances.

This practice may be subtle enough to not be picked up by many readers, or perhaps I’m oversensitive.
This ‘practice’ is something I have followed for years, and notice the general public also mention ‘race’ when discussing current events, but how often do you hear, ‘White Anglo-Saxon Male child molester’.

One could say paranoid, but the media seem to mention race only in some instances.
how often do you hear the media say, ‘Jewish dominated PNAC’. (that may sound racist to some, even though it’s true)
Or
The JROTC almost exclusively Hispanic, Gen. Geo. S. Patton Military Academy in Chicago. (that may sound exploitative).

austbounty...I don't disagree with you that the press makes subtle reference to race, culture or "type" if that type is non-anglo. I've been sensitive to it for most of my life. I just don't think it happened in this article. One of my big peeves on this subject is when people refer to Mexican as a race. It is not. It is a nationality.

The fact is the both were illegal immigrants from Mexico and he had "WORKED" as a prostitute.

bear, where in the article did you read that BOTH were illegal immigrants? Or is there another link to more information you'd like to share?
