Since the beginning of time, God is talked about as a "Him", while God isn't even a man. Do you think this representation has held back society, like thinking God is more of a buddy that needs to be understood (through the Bible) then a growing life force that's in everything? Like, if from the beginning, we never thought of God as being a person or anything, but more as a life energy (or whatever), wouldn't we be way more advanced than we are?, or do you think the opposite?

Krafty - Ah, but you forget a most basic aspect, your concept will quickly be met with the same arguement that spurred the Evolution vs Creation debate..... that little statemnt in the bible about God creating man in his image.
I think that organized religions have done much more harm than the imagined physical form.

I recently read an article which had reported on which churches/religions had increases and which had decreases...over the last 10 years. After reading here the issue of 'is God man or woman' it made me think of this....not trying to make any point just sharing what part of this article said.
Trailing the list was the United Church of Christ, which has rewritten its hymnal to eliminate masculine pronouns and other politically incorrect language. Over the decade it lost 14.8% of its membership.
