Female activist compliments Spanish prime minister's 'assets'
MADRID (May 23, 2003 11:13 a.m. EDT) - The campaign for Spain's local elections veered toward X-rated territory this week as a female activist of the ruling party publicly told Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar that he appeared to be well endowed.
Far from embarrassing the premier, the very public declarations inspired Aznar to reply that maybe she could measure his manly attributes to check just exactly how virile he really was.
The exchange, at an electoral meeting in the southern city of Seville on Thursday evening, began when the lady admirer shouted out from a crowd of 6,000 people: "You may be short, but you really have nice ones" - or words to that effect.
Aznar who is defending his record in Sunday's local elections after giving Spain's support to an unpopular war in Iraq, was so pleased that he asked her to repeat the compliment, no doubt for the benefit of the TV cameras.
The admiring heckler, Francisca Solis, who is running for a municipal seat for Aznar's People's Party, duly reiterated her statement, switching for the second time into the more formal "usted" (you) form to address the prime minister.
Amid uproarious laughter, she declared in more formal style: "You may be short, but you've got them firmly attached."
As the TV cameras - which broadcast the entire exchange into Spanish living-rooms - whirred, Aznar shot back: "If anyone has a ruler on them, maybe he could lend it to her so she can come and make a few measurements and see if I'm up to scratch."
In the country that invented the word "macho," the incident was seen by most observers as a sign that the generally uncharismatic Aznar was feeling a lot more relaxed.

And here ladies and gentlemen is the difference between us and the rest of the world.
If she had said that in the US she probably would have been arrested and his response would have been the end of his political career and leave him forever labeled as a lecherous immoral sex fiend.
