I thought it might be time for a fun post. It's fun, at least to me, to hear where everyone is going for vacation this summer.
The last time we went on vacation anywhere was the last year Clinton was in office. Money's been really tight since then. Ohio is celebrating its 200th Birthday so we thought this year we'd travel around the state. Each weekend we are going to pick someplace in the state that we've never been to. We'll pack the tent and sleeping bags and hit the road for a weekend. I never realized there was so much to do in my own state because we were always looking to get out of it for two weeks each summer. We're going to Fort Ancient in two weeks to see the Indian earthen works. Last weekend we explored the Cuyahoga Valley and managed a 10 mile hike. I'm still sore!
We have decided that we'll spend one week somewhere else. We're going to go camping in Gettysburg, one of my favorite places to go. We're going to take my daughter and granddaughter with us. You can learn about the Civil War in books, but you cannot compare what you learn in books to actually standing on the battlefield. You get an overwhelming sense of saddness when you are standing on the battlefields in Gettysburg.
Anyone planning a cruise or something exciting? Come on, make me jealous!

Gettysburgh is a Great place.... haven't been there for a long time, but did enjoy my trip there. I had friends that lived in Harper's Ferry and it was our "base" for lots of trips.

Cheryl, don't forget Lancaster when you go
to Fort Ancient. We loved having lunch at
the Inn there. I believe it was something like the Red Lion? or something Lion?

You have a great vacation plan, Cheryl. Sometimes the very best vacation areas are right in our own back yard! We enjoy the Annapolis area - only a short distance from our house - along with people from all over the world!!!

Edited to add. I'm sorry to hear about your sister, junquemama. She is lucky to have you nearby!
I'm so sorry to hear about your sister!! I know what it's live to have a sibling very ill. Prayers to you!

Will definately check out Lancaster! I've heard it's a great town.
We went to Washington DC on our last vacation. We spent more time in Virginia than anywhere else. So much to do. One week was just not long enough. I especially liked visiting the mountain towns (great flea markets and yard sales!).

I've never been to Annapolis, but it's on my list of places I'd like to see. It's amazing how much this country has to offer. You don't have to leave it to have a vacation.
I'm starting to save for an Alaskan cruise. I want to do it in the winter. My boyfriend thinks I'm nuts, but I think it would be an awesome adventure!

There is nothing better than a crusie, Cheryl. We had to sell our boat because it became too costly and difficult to maintain. Now I can only dream of cruising down the inland waterway........Winter in Alaska is too cold for me.

I'll be moving my computer desk to face the window. That wy I can combat the green glow I've picked up from the computer monitor with a tan perhaps. LOL!
Not going anywhere this year, too many things to do around the house and not enough cash to do them. Maybe next year!

We have a wedding in Chihuahua this month, then the kid and his sisters are going to a horse camp for three weeks in June. Vacation for me is sitting on the porch with a cooler full of frosty ones, watching the not-bioengineered lambs and tomatoes get fat. I promised mi esposa a cruise, even offered to blow up her innertube and drive down to the bridge to pick her up.She got real snippy after that....wimmin!
