Law & Order is back with their Crime and Punishment series which follows an actual case each episode. This season should be a good one. They film these in San Diego and we seem to have more than our share of wierd cases. Next week involves a strange love triangle murder. Since they were in town filming at the time, I'm wondering if one of the shows this season won't be the David Westerfield trial for the murder of Daniel Van Dam - I would love to see the behind the scenes with the prosecutors on that trial. To go thru the trial knowing that they were in negotiations for a plea in exchange for Westerfield disclosing the location of her body when the searchers found her must have been amazingly frustrating.

Slightly related note - did you know that in an average week, you can spend more than 20 hours watching episodes of Law and Order and associated spinoffs? All three drama shows consistently win their first-run broadcast timeslots and when you include the syndication runs on TNT, producer Dick Wolf claims 80 million viewers a week. (Compare that to last week's top-rated show, American Idol, which had 38.1 million viewers.)
I have to admit I'm addicted - more to the original series than to any of the spinoffs, though I think SVU is OK. I'm more likely to catch Crime and Punishment than SVU or Criminal Intent, though, since my other addiction is Court TV, especially "Forensic Files."

I love Forensic Files as well, along with Cold Case Files ... does that still air? My building has never been wired for cable so I operate off of broadcast TV and Netflix. Occasionally someone will remember to tape CTV for me so I can see some of my favs. Now that they are releasing L&O on DVD I have a constant diet at my fingertips.
