During a discussion today with some co-workers, I found myself wondering how some of you here would respond if you had been in the conversation. So I thought I'd ask you.
The question is this: Assume you're voting in a race with two candidates. One individual is known to you to be basically good-hearted, but abysmally stupid. The other is known to you to be very intelligent, but ruthless to the point of being cruel.
Which do you vote for, and why?
(For those who think I'm identifying one particular official here, I'm not - this isn't a baited trap! The actual discussion revolved around two local candidates. It was not a political issue - both were of the same party and expressed generally similar views on the issues that would be before them.)

Alright, to balance the scales (I am a Libra afterall) I'll go for the stupid one and hope we have an awfully smart House and Congress. You know, one that doesn't swing too far to either side but rather stays in the middle? Well, darn it, we can all dream can't we?
What about stupid and ruthless to the point of being cruel? Oh, wait, silly me - we've got that already.
Sorry, I couldn't help myself. It's Friday, I'm fried, I'm just a ball of confusion. Good heavens, I've lost my mind.

The race under discussion actually was a local one, and the reason we were talking was because I had decided, almost without thinking about it, to go with the meanie. I guess my intuition was that she would be too smart to do something egregiously nasty, and could see far enough ahead to recognize the consequences of her actions. The sweet-but-dumb one is the incumbent and the problem with him is that the last person who gets to him is the one that makes the difference.
