Did this ever bother you? When I was little, I used to go to church, which was right across the street from me. This church was grand with all the stained glass windows, gold and silver cups and all that stuff. I used to wonder why, if the church was supposed to help people, did it invest such a huge amount of money in all the "trappings", when that money could've gone to help poor people. Did you ever think this way?

I still do, kraftdinner. I think some of the things may have been given to the church, but there are a lot of things paid for with that money you toss into the collection plate. I may get blasted here, but I put no money into that plate. If I'm to give money it goes directly to the charity itself.

I used to go to a humble church when I was young, a simple wooden structure with a steeple.

If you want OUTRAGEOUS, consider the Catholic Church. They close churches in the poorest neighborhoods simply because they aren't profitable enough. "What, SPEND actual money where the need is the greatest? I think not!"

This one is not in a poor neighborhood either.

Does it seem as ostentacious to you as it does to me?

The people in our area refer to this mormon temple as "disneyland on the beltway."

All of your posts made me realize just how silly tradition is.
