Dog Gives Flasher His Come-Uppance
Aug 1, 8:27 am ET

ZAGREB (Reuters) - A drunken Croat flasher got more excitement than he bargained for when he pushed his penis through a woman's fence and her dog bit it, local newspapers said on Friday.

The visibly drunk man was walking down the street and started swearing and shouting at the woman for no reason. He then shoved his penis through her fence, unaware her dog was on the other side, police said.

The bitten man himself reported the incident to the police.

The 36-year-old was taken to hospital with light injuries but later sent home. He will be charged with "insulting the moral feelings of citizens" and "violation of public order."

Cashiers Diapered to Avoid Breaks?
Aug 1, 8:13 am ET

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (Reuters) - Supermarket cashiers in Argentina are being forced to wear diapers to keep them from taking toilet breaks at work, a union says.

Female cashiers in western Mendoza province must wear adult diapers in case "cold, nerves, pressure or stress" provoke incontinence, union official Jorge Cordova told local news agency Diarios y Noticias on Thursday.

Cordova refused to name the supermarket, but he did say the chain is backed by foreign capital, said Sandra Varela, Mendoza's labor subsecretary.

"The truth is, it's difficult to imagine a line of 20 adult cashiers wearing diapers for eight hours," said Varela, who is investigating the matter.

"In seventeen years as a labor lawyer, I've never heard anything like this before," she added.

Testing the Bush Regime Re-Election Scheme...

New Law Allows Drunks to Vote
Aug 1, 8:17 am ET

OSLO (Reuters) - It will be two pints of lager and a ballot, please, in Norway this year after a change in the law allowing voters to get drunk and then go out to vote.

"The election board can no longer refuse anyone to vote because they are intoxicated," an adviser at the Local Government Ministry said Thursday.

Until now, Norway's election law has denied entry to polling stations anyone with "seriously impaired judgment" or "reduced consciousness" from booze, but that law has been scrapped, adviser Steinar Dalbakk told the Bladet Tromsoe newspaper.

But Norwegians will have to sober up again for the 2005 general elections. Politicians -- possibly fearing the effects of a political hangover -- have re-enacted the law banning drunken voting.

The new law will however not take effect until after September's local government polls.

Sept. 11 Tales as Robbery Ploy?
Aug 1, 8:12 am ET

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A woman who distracted bank tellers with stories about losing loved ones on Sept. 11, 2001, pleaded guilty on Thursday to robbing six New York and Connecticut banks during a two-day spree in May.

Pamela Kaichen, 43, of Katonah, New York, pleaded guilty to six felony counts in federal court in New Haven, Connecticut, where the case had been transferred from Manhattan.

She faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on each of the six counts.

According to the charges, Kaichen robbed the banks of a total of more than $42,000 in the same way. Wearing a long blond wig and baseball cap, she approached tellers in the banks making comments about the Sept. 11 attacks.

In one case she told a teller, "I've lost loved ones in 9/11 and I'm afraid that I'm going to lose more. ... I'm going to lose it and I have a gun in my pocket."

In another case she asked a teller if she was a good listener and then said: "I went through the Sept. 11 attack and I'm very angry today. Don't make a sound or everyone is going to die."

She then had the tellers fill a pillowcase with money.

Bad Feng Shui Blamed for German MPs Lacking Ideas
Aug 2, 7:05 am ET

BERLIN (Reuters) - If German politicians lack ideas for reforming the country's struggling healthcare and pensions systems, they can now blame an adverse flow of energy in their workplace.

The German parliament's glass dome, a Berlin landmark, makes for bad feng shui, according to an expert in the Chinese art of positioning objects, buildings and furniture.

"The energy is downright sucked out of MPs' heads by the glass dome," feng shui adviser Wilhelm Wuschko told the mass-circulation daily Bild on Saturday.

To keep the energy inside, the dome should be coated with a protective foil, he said.

Bild said the office of parliament president Wolfgang Thierse would not comment on the suggestion.
