I found a card tucked into an old book I'm going to sell. Had this on it:

LOVING KINDNESS MEDITATION

Whatever living beings
there are, feeble or strong,
if great and long or medium,
if short and small or large,

if seen or never seen,
if far away or near,
if born or seeking birth,
may all be blessed with peace.

Let none deceive another
or ever feel contempt,
let none wish harm to others
in anger or resentment.

As, risking life, a mother
cares for her only child,
grow all-embracing thoughts
for every living being.

May all beings be happy.

May all beings live in peace and harmony,

May all beings be liberated.


And, on the other side of the card:

"Spiritual Canticle" by St. John of the Cross

The night of total calm
before the rising winds of dawn,
the music of silence,
the sounding solitude,
the supper that renews our love.
