First of all, I am vehemently Pro Death Penalty, especially in a case like this one. That said I have a problem with Fl's execution of Paul Hill. I have lived in 3 death penalty states, I watched I don't know how many count downs and such and this one doesn't fit.
1) Executionas are always scheduled for 12:01am. This is done because there is a 24 hour window on the order and just in case there is a last minute hold, this time gives the state the maximum amount of time to overtime whatever stay has be sprung on them.
2) The announcment of the death is always from "Prison Officials"
This execution seems to have been sceduled for the evening news and then announced by Jeb Bush's office. Strikes me as blatant manipulation for political means and that I have to say I am against.
If we are going to start serving up executions for public consumtion then go all the way. Make it a PPV with proceeds divided among state penal systems.
(Breath Helen! I know you are steaming right now, just remember to breath )

Abortion Dr.'s Killer Executed in Florida
STARKE, Fla. - Paul Hill, a former minister who said he murdered an abortion doctor and his bodyguard to save the lives of unborn babies, was executed Wednesday by injection. He was the first person put to death in the United States for anti-abortion violence.
Hill, 49, was condemned for the July 29, 1994, shooting deaths of Dr. John Bayard Britton and his bodyguard, retired Air Force Lt. Col. James Herman Barrett, and the wounding of Barrett's wife outside the Ladies Center in Pensacola.
Hill was pronounced dead at 6:08 p.m., Gov. Jeb Bush's office said.

My problem is with the tone of the new coverage. He was not put to death for anti-abortion violence he was executed for a premeditated double homicide and was an unrepentant SOB to boot.

That falls in line with current trend of prosecuting people for hate crimes. Prosecute a perpetrator for there criminal actions, not what they might have been thinking while committing a crime.

You can jump right off that soap box. He WAS prosecuted for murder. HE brought the abortion issue to the case by using his oppositionn to it as his defense. He never claimed he was innocent - he claimed he was justified in his action because he was killing to stop the doctor from performing more abortions.

Outside the fact that killing abortion doctors is like killing cock roaches... it only works when you get them all...
He has no reason to be repentent... that is what I love about liberals... they don't understand keeping to your beliefs...

I don't believe in your insane beliefs. I want to make the world safe for Democracy. Do I have your permission to gun you down like the dog that you are?
I also don't like the color of your car, would I be allowed to murder your friends and family?
