What is the matter with people?
Puppy Crushed In Hit-And-Run Accident Needs Help
CLEVELAND, 9:20 a.m. EDT October 20, 2003 - A hit-and-run accident left a puppy fighting for its life. And the woman who found the 5-month-old is desperate to raise enough money for life-saving surgery.
NewsChannel 5's Alicia Scicolone reported that Maverick, the husky-mix, needs your help.
Maverick was hit by a car last week on the corner of Euclid Avenue and East Boulevard. Bonnie Goddin saw it all.
"The puppy had gotten in front of the car and they gunned their engine and went over it," Goddin said. "I could see her back leg being crunched under the car. It's something that gives you nightmares."
Goddin's instant reaction was to get out of her car and run after Maverick.
"She was falling over herself and just running blindly," Goddin said.
Goddin was able to grab the puppy and she called the local animal hospital.
"She either has to have the surgery as soon as possible or she has to be put down," she said.
Goddin dropped Maverick off Monday at the Gateway Animal Clinic in Tremont where she'll wait again for surgery.
But in order to save her life, about $3,000 needs to be raised. If you're willing to donate, you can call the public animal welfare society at (440) 442-PAWS.

I'll keep ya posted. I'm sure money will come pouring in for this poor dog.

Sure, the owner should be sent the bill. The problem is in urban areas there are many, many animal owners that toss their animals out the door when they tire of taking care of them. We have a neighborhood full of them, especially cats who suffer horribly in the winter and are tortured by area teenagers. The driver of the car should be hung, IMO. And, so should all animal owners who toss them away when they find out that owning an animal is not all fun and games.

You are right! A doctor is held to a standard to save the lives of human beings and hospitals cannot turn you away (at least not state or federally funded ones). Vet's are held to the same standards for treating animals and animals hospitals should be the same. Unfortunately, it's not about saving lives anymore. It's about the money (especially in the case of doctors and malpractice insurance costs). This is an extreme situation and the animal hospital should treat the animal if it can be treated and not put it down.

Some balance to the cruelty. This is where I was last weekend. Mohican is gorgeous this time of year! I didn't have my digital so I had to scan these with my crappy scanner.
