How come Rush didn't just order his Vicodin off the internet, instead of going through his maid?

A very good question. God may have loaned him talent, but he apparently didn't include any common sense.

Well, if we have any talent, it is 'on loan' from God and that is what he always meant. Common sense, well, obviously God didn't loan him that, LOL!

I don't dare click those links, I've gotten spammed from just looking up the online pharmacys, and I did, only to see if it was possible to get pain killers as easy as that, and found, YES, it is. Whether they deliver is another story, as I would never try it

I suffer from pain daily.
When the doctors fail to control it to cover their butts with the Feds I'll do the same as Rush and buy relief where ever I can get it.

I don't use any of the good stuff, but I have successfully ordered asthma inhalers, prescription allergy meds I can't find in Mexico, and things like that online. When we were in Mexico City last month I forgot to stock up on Ventolin, and came home and ordered online, had my shipment in a week ( shipped from Vanuatu!!) at less than I would have paid in Mexico.

profe, what may be good to have on hand, in case there was a real emergency... things like anti biotics and painkillers. I may get some, for the 'emergency' kit.

But I never noticed on any of those online pharmacys if they even had anti biotics. I would only get the kind myself and my girls have used in the past. Do they sell anti b's over the counter in Mexico?

gravid, if you have the money, when I looked, vicoden, tylenol 3 and 4, and other stuff were available, but seemed pretty high priced. Drs are reluctant to give out pain killers, and thats really bad for people who really need them. You may want to check out those links.

I agree with you, gravid. People that are reduced to being common street druggies, just so they can live without constant pain once in awhile, is a sin.

Near, you can get all sorts of antibiotics at a farm supply store - gallons if you want!

It is relatively easy to get any medication however the overuse of antibiotics is responsible for the evolution of drug resistant strains of various types. They are also not effective against viral infections such as flu although they are used commonly by flu sufferers.

If you do take antibiotics take the full recommended course even if symtoms subside before you have done so.

The Physicians Desk Reference (PDR) is the bible of available drugs.

Yes, you can purchase antibiotics over the counter in Mexico. I have a friend with three kids who cycle their illnesses. She is on a first name basis with her favorite pharmacist across the border.

I used to buy Amoxicillin and Penicillin in Mexico when my boy was younger. Kept it around for the odd ear infection, etc. I still like to keep pediatric amoxicillin powder for when one of the barn cats gets an abscess or one of the dogs gets into the barbed wire. A trip to the vet out here is expensive, and frankly, I can lance an abscess or clean out and stitch a wire cut as well or better than he can, unless it's on one of the expensive horses... dave is right, the over use of antibiotics is responsible for bigger and stronger germs. We always use the mildest form, like amoxicillin, then if that won't kick an infection we go to the doctor for bigger guns, like Keflex and the like. Another little known place for acquiring low priced antibiotics is you local feed store. Sure, the bottle says "for veterinary use only", but penicillin is penicillin, I've taken it since I was a kid, with no ill effects. Mexico, especially the border and tourist areas, is getting smart about all the gringos coming across to buy their meds. The prices are going up. You can basically buy anything you want without a prescription in a Mexican pharmacy, with the exception of US Class III narcotics....stuff like codeine, and the serious pain killers and various forms of amphetamines. You can always find a Mexican doctor for those items too. All border towns have Docs who have been approved by the US DEA and have a registration number. Their prescriptions are acceptable for crossing the border with class III drugs...it's a big joke along the border....typical scenario goes like this:

Nice looking mexican kid quietly asks wandering tourist " Do you need a Doctor sir?"
tourist "Why yes, I do, do you know one with a DEA number?
kid: Sure, follow me and we'll get you an appointment"
Dr. shows tourist his DEA certificate, charges a 10-25 dollar office call, writes a prescription for a "3 month personal supply" of, say, timed-release methamphetamine (made in the US by Smith-Kline) for the treatment of backache, asthma, allergies, neuritis, neuralgia, Dengue fever, or whatever ailment you have, and happy tourist is on his way, perfectly legal on both sides of the border. Those timed release buzz bombs will go for 3-5 bucks a pop back on the university campus in Dacron, Ohio. Ah...the war on drugs, but I digress....

Prof, I took a couple of my friend's diet pills one day (about 20 years ago), and ended up cleaning my apartment floors with a toothbrush.

Yeah I know about the overuse of anti b's.

It would be nice to have some for an emergency kit.

We gave all our cows and horses their shots and worming, all from the feed store. I know you can get it there. (and I know how expensive Vets are to come out to your farm! but sometimes you just have to)

My daughter is vet tech and vet dentist now, but I don't think I would have her work on my teeth!

Pretty interesting about the drs in Mexico, wow. I have a freind who goes to Panama 2 x a year. She tells the same story about seeing a dr, she's had to a few times, but she was really sick. She got the medication for Hep C down there. Because she stayed longer than she thought and ran out. And it is really inexpensive down there!

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - A jury must decide whether a pain specialist and his assistant illegally prescribed drugs that contributed to the overdose deaths of seven people.

Jurors are expected to begin deliberating Wednesday in the case against Dr. Cecil Byron Knox III, 54, and nurse Beverly Gale Boone, 44. The pair are charged in a 69-count indictment that includes racketeering, conspiracy, fraud and drug charges stemming from Knox's practice at Southwest Virginia Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation P.C.
.............

But the operation was nevertheless lucrative for Knox and his staff, Fitzgerald said. During a one-year period, Knox wrote 3,332 prescriptions for OxyContin and charged insurers $1,600,000 for the drugs in a gargantuan effort at soothing pain that ranked him near the top in the country among doctors.

Part 5...Millions of Americans Look Outside U.S. for Drugs
Desire for Low Prices Often Outweighs Obeying Law

Pharmacies line the streets of Algodones,
Mexico, many catering to American seniors and
others looking to save money on medication

At San Ysidro, Calif., which abuts Tijuana, Mexico, 90 million people a year cross, leaving inspectors there with an average of five seconds to size up what travelers may have in their packages, supervisory inspector Joseph W. Misenhelter said. "Medications are only one of our concerns."
