A great article - I used to fly with USAir, and I didn't know about the monetary compensation for getting bumped! Learn something everyday

My husband use to travel for his job, about once every quarter. Every once in a while he'd volunteer to accept free tickets if he'd take another flight. Was nice because then we could use them to go where we wanted to. This was before 9-11, the airlines cutting back on flights and the severe overbooking that happens now.
It was interesting to read when they 'have to' offer you what though. Thanks.

i have seen 400 dollars for domestic flight.
i have been offered one nite hotel plus meals and cash of 285 dollars for overseas flight.
it was on my return flight from overseas,who wants to stay an extra nite ??

We were told to offer meals, accommodations and tickets when trying to get someone to volunteer. Money seems like a much better incentive to get someone to give up their seat, but we weren't told that was an option. Wonder why
