Considering that is a restortion of former fees as opposed to an increase, I'm not opposed. For five years we got a 66% break on our licensing fees because the California economy allowed for it. Now the economy is weak, the state is in debt and it's not unreasonable that the discount would come to an end. The state needs money, it can only cut spending by a small amount due to voter dictated budget allocations so the only way to get the state out of debt is to increase it's income. With that in mind, do you really think that it is fiscally pesonsible to keep the discount?

It was a discount? Not a out and out reduction?

If it was a temporary discount, then it should be ok to do away with it, however they should give ample notice out.

They did. The rollback had a sunset provision and was set up as temporary when it was created. No one went in and raised it. Times had changed in the six years, it had the reinstatement mandated at the time it was given.

I doubt Swartzenegger will have it removed or more accurately can as the funds do not exist to fill the gap. The programs it specifically funds are Police and Fire. It was a red herring used to further a political agenda in terms of the recall.

Twelve - it was a discount with a trigger clause in it that stated that the tax rate could be returned to its formal level in the event that the state budget fell into deficit (it was originally put in place as a type of rebate when the state had a budget surplus.). When the trigger was pulled there was a 3 or 4 month time period between anouncement and the actual repeal

(Anyone with common sence could have gone in and renewed during that time to put off the bite for a year.)
